Here is an easy list of do's and don'ts for renting on air bnb.
Do: Make sure it is legitimate that you are renting out your home on airbnb
Don't: Ask your guests to say that they are your 'friends' from out of town.
Do: hire a cleaning person to arrive between your guest's departure and your arrival home. We are all particular about our spaces, myself included. Having a professional cleaner come in really saves having to get upset and leaving petty nasty reviews for your guests. If this solution doesn't work for you:
Do: leave adequate cleaning supplies for your guests to clean up after themselves. We can't very well expect our guests to go out and buy a mop can we?Leave adequate tools and cleaning solutions for them to clean up after themselves.
Do: be a little bit flexible. If you yourself leave dishes in the dishwasher, shouldn't it be OK for your guests to load the dishwasher and run it before leaving? If your guests wash the towels and you have a friend coming over, have the friend or a cleaning person follow up on the washed towels. There are worse sins than washing your towels.
Do: Assign and point person to make sure your guests get keys and can report maintenance problems.
Don't: When guests report a clogged sink, don't just tell them to use another one. Get it fixed as soon as possible.
Don't: Hide keys for your guests in the front vestibule of your building, that is not a secure way to make sure your guests get into your place alright. It risks the safety of everyone else in your building.
Do: Provide more than one set of keys for your guests.
I'm sorry to say that this person charged a cleaning fee and then complained about us despite the fact that we tidied extensively and cleaned the best we could given that there was no broom and dustpan to use etc. She demanded that we pay an additional $75 to cover her cleaner (who was already scheduled and paid for) and her phone calls with her cleaner all for some small crumbs on the kitchen floor. This seems unreasonable at best and extortion at worst. I'm very surprised and disappointed in this review.
Ashley, I'm very surprised and disappointed that you can't take responsibility for the lack of cleanliness in your apartment. This is not our first stay in airbnb or houseswaps in the past. I've never had an issue like this until now. I know you would prefer to think that we are being difficult but that is simply not the case. Coffee and tea do not compensate for a dirty bathroom. If if was just the heat, we wouldn't have given you a negative review.
