8 of us spent 2 nights here and I would do it again in a second. Andrew was EXTREMELY helpful and answered all of my questions in a timely manner when I emailed or texted him, and answered immediately whenever I called. My girlfriend and friends planned on renting bikes in downtown Jim Thorpe and were running late so we weren't able to pack and get our stuff together beforehand. I let Andrew know and he had no problem letting us come back after to finish up. The lake is beautiful and there is so much too within several miles of the house.
Andrew was helpful in calling in advance and the day we arrived and also helpful texting along the way.
Location was ideal! Being able to walk right out of the house and to the lake made a truly great experience. Also, we were only about 5-10 minutes away from white water rafting and the center of town. Andrew made everything easy. Great communication and very laid back approach - perfect for a truly relaxing weekend. Use of boats - also made for a fun time! I definitely would recommend it for a wonderful get-away!
If you want to spend a weekend sitting by a lovely lake, Andrew's place is great. We visited in July with three kids - an infant, a 3 year old, and a 7 year old. They all enjoyed playing in the sand and very shallow water. Also, Andrew had a couple kayaks (& child-sized lifevests) which were great, and we roasted marshmallows in the fire pit and often ate at the large outdoor table. Everything about the yard was really wonderful. The house itself was pretty basic but relatively clean and totally serviceable. Andrew was accessible and answered questions via text throughout the weekend. The one thing we wish we had known in advance was that the basement room was not ideal -- it was pretty damp and cold (we made a run to the store for warmer PJs for the kids, and kept the one with asthma upstairs). Despite this, we would absolutely stay again, we were there for the lake and it was well worth it.
Great times as usual, even if the weather wasn't quite on the mark this time. Andrew had a used kayak that allowed us to go for a great little trip around the lake in between rain showers.
The lake was gorgeous, so much more to do that's not even listed on the page. We had a great time making s'mores over the fire on the beach one night, grilling on the deck, and boating/kayaking around the beautiful lake. The listing says bring your own linens (sheets, towels, and pillowcases), but I highly recommend bringing your own blankets too. The mattress cover on the queen bed was covered in questionable stains, as well as the blanket on the double bed. We didn't know there was a washer/dryer until we were leaving or else we would have just washed them then and there.. I would still recommend bringing your own light blankets in the summer because there's only quilts that are a little heavy for the hot weather.
The house was exactly like in pics and it was an amazing trip !! Thanks Andrew!!
Andrew was the perfect host. He sent is detailed pictures and descriptions to let us know where to find keys and other things. The house is very much as described...beautiful sunset, gorgeous lake view, very close to Jim Thorpe and smack in the middle of two state parks for hiking. We wanted a quiet relaxing place at a reasonable price, and I feel we definitely got it. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone. We only had two people, but you could have easily had a family or group of friends.
Had a great weekend at Andrews house. Great location, lake and house are exactly as described. Very nice kitchen, living room, and deck. Little beach area in front of the lake is very nice. Andrew was very helpful and quick to respond. Would definitely stay again.
My family had a great vacation at Andrew's cabin/home. My wife and our two boys (ages 5 and 8) spent a week in the cabin from 2/15-2/22 and each day we went to the surrounding mountains for snowboarding and tubing.
Andrew was a great host. He met us upon our arrival and helped us settle in. He came back midweek to clean out the wood stove ashes and to make sure we were doing ok with the extreme cold and had everything we needed.
Despite the freezing temperatures during our week there, we were able to stay warm and cozy in the cabin utilizing the regular heat and wood stove in the living room. The cabin is equipped with wifi, cable, and a nice tv which were all great for the kids.
We spent the majority of our days at Blue Mountain although we did make two trips to Camelback and JackFrost. The cabin is located within 30-45 minutes from almost all of the major ski resorts. JackFrost is about a 30-35 minute drive and Camelback is about 40-45 minutes. Blue Mountain is about 30 minutes away. The first day we drove to Blue Mountain our GPS took us on back roads the whole way but we soon discovered another route taking 209 South to 248 East and getting off at the Palmerton exit. This was the easiset and safest drive depending on road conditions in my opinion.
Here is what we learned regarding the surrounding area:
The Jim Thorpe market is the closest grocery store located 10 mins south just off of 903. We did a lot of cooking during our stay and found the GIANT grocery store in Lehighton was a little bigger and had a better selection. We stocked up at GIANT and used Jim Thorpe for smaller items we ran out of mid week. There is also a Walmart near the GIANT foodstore.
One of our boys came down with an ear infection mid week and we were happy to find St Luke's Walk-In Medical Center right on 903 in Jim Thorpe. There is also a pharmacy next to it where we were able to get antibiotics. There is a liquor store across the street from the pharmacy and a beer distributor next to the liquor store.
For restaurants we enjoyed Tratorria 903 (Italian) which is two minutes south from the cabin on 903. We also enjoyed Dom N Ali's (steak, fish, burgers, etc) two minutes north from the cabin on 903.
