My partner and I are conscientious and clean people who have great respect for other's spaces. We recycle our trash and recently converted our lawn to an organic vegetable garden. Unfortunately, this host had a list of unreasonable demands. For example, she requested we leave the heat at no more than 50 degrees(!) with a newborn baby. Additionally, she does not provide any trash bags--only one very small compost receptacle--and no outdoor bins in which to dispose of the garbage. There is a severe ant infestation in the house, and as a guest, you are provided with a list of instructions as to how to treat the anticipated arrival of these creatures. We were instructed to mix boric acid in a specifically provided container, indicating that this is a permanent and ongoing problem. We were in disbelief to see this included in her review of us. Additionally, towels were old and smelly and the shower needs re-grouting. Multiple notes are posted everywhere with detailed lists of instructions, and there is a timer in the shower to limit one's bathing time. We absolutely did NOT leave any dirty dishes or food in the sink, only rinsed dishes in the dishwasher, which according to Sandi's endless instructions were to be left unwashed (in order to save water, we presume).
We fully respect Sandi's priorities in running her home, but there is a mismatch between her expectations of guests and what they are actually given to work with. A relaxing vacation rental should provide a trash can, a clean towel, and should not include the experience of mixing boric acid or being hounded with written requests throughout the rental (3 on the bathroom mirror and even posted on the inside of bathroom drawers).
