We are a married couple with 2 sons aged 22 and 20 living away from home, so we now have 2 extra rooms we have fixed up for airbnb guests! Guests have their own shared bathroom & shower & toilet seperate to ours. We have a large, comfy warm room downstairs with a flat screen tv, as well as free Wi-Fi. Mark is a New Zealand Native and I am originally from the USA with dual New Zealand & USA citizenship. My husband's work is with intellectually handicapped adults and I have just finished my PhD, plus I work part time at the University's Medical library.
We live in a very nice neighbourhood called Opoho, situated up in the hills overlooking the sea and the Botanic gardens, 3 blocks away. I am an artist and opur house is very much "an artist's home", which is hard to describe- you'll just have to see! We have 6 hens in the back yard garden and behind us is a small pasture bordered by eucalyptus trees.
Our neighbour grazes his sheep and 2 cows there. Our yard is filled with song birds like Tuis and Bell-Birds; their songs are the only noise we get up here. We are also a 20 minute walk from the University of Otago, Dunedin's new stadium and a 30 minute walk from town. Busses run regularly from our neighbourhood, the bus stop is 2 blocks away, town is 10 minutes by bus.
We are happy to share our kitchen and dining area with guests, and we have a commercial sized washer & dryer for laundry. We have a beautiful large deck with a view of the ocean and the air is so clean here, you can see clear across town to the hills on the other side. On a clear night you can easily see the Milky Way and the brightest stars in the southern sky. Our sunrises and sunsets are unparallelled in beauty!
Our favourite travel destination is anywhere on the South Island, and we love to help guests plan their itineraries because we know the best spots! For a little extra we can pick you up and drop you off at the airport or take you on sight-seeing tours in our 8 seater van.
Mark and I are in and out all day so we'll be around if there are any problems but we won't breathe down your necks. We love showing off our part of the world to visitors, so please come and stay- you are welcome here!
