We enjoyed our stay in Angela's cottage SO much!!
It is a wonderful, cute, excotic paradise =)
Beautiful and such a great get-away!
Angela is exceptionally friendly and humorous. She picked us up at the bus station and had prepared cokies, raki and wine and made dinner for us one night =)
Mixoruma is an amazingly beatiful area!
Hope to see you again =)
The house is perfect for a quiet stay in the mountains. I saw goats in the morning outside the bedroom window, and the stars in full force at night. A peaceful place with ducks and geese, and the stream are the only sounds you'll hear.
Angela is a wonderful host, and brought me homemade treats one day!
I highly recommend this place.
Nice and lonely place near of Spili, where you can find nice restaurants. The smaller cottage has a basic interrior, but it is sufficiant. I Misses some more pictures of the appartment in advance. The terrasse and the garden were very nice to enjoy the hottest time of the days and to relax. There are a lot of steps to go, so I would recommend to leave a part of the baggage in the car.
Angela's cottage is an oasis of peace. An almost mystical hut in the cretan countryside, you will be one with nature. You will wake up with the deafening sound of crickets, and wi be visited by a lovely cat we called ginger (for obvious reasons) and a couple of geese (much less friendly than the cat). We stayed in the cottage upstairs. A perfect hide-out for those wanting to escape modernity and chaos...and you will have to, because there is no phone or internet connection! If you develop web withdrawal symptoms, the local bakery has free wifi, as well as some delicious home made cookies. Best spots nearby: the st. Anthony canyon, and lots of beaches. Our favourite was shenaria, a 20 minutes drive. Magical little place.
I have been delaying writing this review as all and all, I have had a great experience with Airbnb and would recommend it to anyone whole isn’t into very structured travel and staying in hotels. I just discovered Airbnb in the spring and booked all mine and my granddaughter’s lodgings through Airbnb on our three weeks trip to Greece. All together we stayed with seven different hosts and were pleased if not enthusiastic, with all but one, “Angela’s Unique Cretan Experience” near the village of Spili, Crete. First I will say what is positive about Angela’s cottages. The setting is beautiful and so very peaceful. It is just above a stream with ducks and geese which come and visit. It has mountains surrounding it. The two nights we were there high winds hit the area making being outside unpleasant. Being in a sheltered location, we retreated to sitting our garden and reading after a harrowing drive to the coast feeling like we would be blown off the road. We stopped to take a photo and the wind almost tore the door off the car. It seems like Crete is hit by such winds in July and August. But know there is a price for the solitude at Angela’s cottages. There is no Wi-Fi, nor mobile phone reception until you get to the main road. This I think should be explained in the description of the cottages and location. As far as our stay, the biggest problem arose when we arrived. When I finally reached Angela about our arrival which was a problem in itself, she told me I didn’t have a reservation. I said I certainly do and I have been in touch with her a number of times by email. It seems her daughter is the one who actually handles the booking and email communication with guests. For some reason communication between Angela and her daughter had broken down and she had no idea about my reservation. She had no knowledge of my emails about traveling with my granddaughter, or about saying that yes, we would use sofa bed in the cottage giving my granddaughter the bedroom. Also I asked about the water quality. I am an Asia traveler and always carry a water purifier if I think I will need it. I don’t by plastic bottled water unless I have no other choice. To top it off, her daughter was away in England. When I called the only number I had from Airbnb, I reached her in London. She told me I needed to call her mother and gave me her number. When I called it all I got was a voice mail in Greek which of course I couldn’t understand. I explained to the people in the bakery where I was to meet Angela of my dilemma. Being a very small village, they knew Angela. They called her on their phone and did reach her. After telling me I didn’t have a reservation, she agreed to come...
Awesome little accommodation! The set up around the river with the ducks and the cats was great! You can sit outside enjoying the nature around you and sleep in a sort of cave or rock house with the bed on the top level. It's a bit hard to get to but it worth it!
We really enjoyed our stay at Angelas cottage. We stayed for 5 nights and it was a good central spot for driving out each day to explore Crete. The cottage was comfortable and in a gorgeous setting just as its described. We went to Spilli each night for dinner where there is a good restaurant serving authentic Greek food, there are also good grocery shops there. Angela is lovely, she made is feel very welcome and we were sad to say goodbye
This is a great place for a romantic hideaway. You can imagine Lancelot and Guinivere hidding out from Arthur. Or maybe James Bond recuperating from his latest bust-up while being nursed by his greatest enemy's favorite moll. The outside gardens are a dream world. We were in the upper unit which gets lots of sunlight, but is very small and compact, especially the loft bedroom where it is impossible for anyone to stand straight. Definitely not for really tall people. The bath is contained in a sort of back porch area so can be chilly in the off-season. Angela and her family are very helpful and kind, and a delight to know. They even invited us for Easter dinner which was fabulous fun. Thanks very much.
