All of my communication with Niamh during the course of her stay was polite and respectful, and so I felt confident that when she said the place was left in good shape for my return that this was indeed the case. I was therefore surprised to come home to a place that was very messy and in much worse shape than I left it - flex of what appear to be wax (?) on my dining room table, a cigarette at my front door (despite a no smoking policy), despite my asking that my apartment be left as is in return for not charging a cleaning fee.
While these are minor inconveniences, more frustrating is that my stored belongings, which I explicitly ask to be left alone in my apartment instructions as a courtesy and respect for my space had clearly been rummaged through - bags of shoes left untied, a stored-away jewelry/accessory bag found in a different spot. The purpose of airbnb is to provide accommodations, not the potential for a new wardrobe. While it could have been much worse, this fact alone makes me say that I would not want Niamh to stay in my home again. I think she would potentially be a fine tenant to others so long as one had a way to make inaccessible personal belonging they want to remain private, instead of basing it on an honor system as I did.
It was a pleasure having Niamh as a guest. She was very easy to work with and respected the property and community while she was here. She left the place in great condition and I have no complaints. I would definately rent to her again and I recommend her to future hosts.
