Our visit to the Chester River House was perfect!
From the first contact with David we felt in good hands and on arrival in Chestertown found the house to exceed our high expectations for the week. The week passed by too quickly and we look forward to returning in the coming years. Our eight year old daughter especially enjoyed catching fireflies, kayaking on the river, and feasting on the home cooked grilled food.
We completely recommend David and his Chester River House for families - like ours- who want to get away for a few days and enjoy time together in a great natural environment.
David's home on the river was a delight. It is a great place for a family stay. My Sister, Mom, Aunt and I enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and the all the personal touches including coffee! Dinner on the deck, at the picnic table or around the fire ring make great memories. We also loved watching the sunset on the river. A quiet retreat in a great neighborhood. We walked to historic Chestertown over the bridge and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Fish Whistle and shopping downtown. Our family would definitely love to stay again.
We really enjoyed our stay at David's house by the Chester River. The house is in a quiet, peaceful position with a garden backing onto the river. The house is clean and well-equipped, with plenty of games and movies for the kids as well as a well-stocked kitchen. David left helpful instructions containing all the information needed for the stay. Chestertown is a couple of minutes drive away, on the other side of the river. We had a great stay and would definitely go back again.
We had an amazing, relaxing stay in Chestertown. The house had everything we needed for a cozy getaway. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
From the outside the house is nondescript, on a quiet neighborhood street a mile or two from downtown. Inside it is open and airy and the views of the Charles River are the very best. It was a cold winter weekend so we did not take advantage of the nice outdoor deck, kayaks or the fishing pier but could see how lovely they would be on a summer day. The house is lightly furnished and very comfortable.
We had a wonderful stay at this home. The house was extremely clean, cozy, spacious and bright, and the photos are accurate. The house is extremely well equipped (compared to many places I've stayed) with enough kitchenware and tableware for 8-10 people. There were no problems with anything; and David the host was very helpful and flexible (we had to change our dates several times). I would highly recommend this home. Excellent choice and great value. See you again soon, David!
Clean, airy and relaxing, the house had everything we needed for a weekend visit; comfortable beds, nice linens, well appointed kitchen, sophisticated technology systems, and plenty of lounging room. Being right on the Chestertown river was a wonderful experience - lots of nature.
This place has a great location and spectacular sunset view across the Chester River. It is a very quiet area, although the neighbor's dogs occasionally had a barking fit, it was never long. Kayaking out your back door is the special sauce--even though the tidal river can be windy and a bit rough. We got a lot of river mud on us going up Radcliffe Creek (tributary of the Chester River) and if we hadn't had instant access to the washing machine, I'm positive our clothes would have been ruined--I'm so appreciative of that. The bedrooms are small, but the Florida room makes the house feel much bigger than it is. We spent several pleasant evenings there watching the sunset. On the deck, there are two tables and plenty of chairs. For outdoor eating, the flies are a constant, persistent nuisance--due to nearby agriculture?
Kitchen had just about every thing we looked for--quite well supplied.
We only used the master bedroom, and the Queen bed there was quite comfortable. The other two bedrooms have bunks, but if all the beds were full, the single bathroom might be an issue. I'd left my shampoo in the previous night's lodging and was surprised to find sample-size shampoos available in the bath. Oddly, no wash cloths were available, which I did mention to the owner. Sunblock doesn't seem to come off very well without a wash cloth.
The center of Chestertown is a pleasant 2-mile walk (4 mile RT) which we did a couple of times, with a stopover at a coffee shop.
We brought some DVDs to play and my husband finally figured out how to set up the system to view them, but it was a challenge. Maybe directions are in order for that and for the heating/cooling thermostat, which seemed obvious but wasn't.
Absolutely recommend this place. I would love to go back tomorrow.
Response from David:
Pat - thanks for the detailed feedback. Washcloths have now been purchased based on your input. I will also look to simplify the TV/AppleTV/Playstation instructions to make this simpler - my wife has the same complaint!
David and his family were gracious hosts. Their house was beautiful and the pictures do not do this house justice. My fiancé and I had a nice relaxing weekend there in Chestertown and I would highly recommend this lovely place to others and would definitely stay there again!
We had a wonderful time at this river house! We found the house to be very clean, tastefully decorated and uncluttered. Plenty of room for everyone in our group.
The location on the river is lovely. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking, grilling, and relaxing on the deck.
David was very helpful in booking and responded promptly to all messages and requests. I would highly recommend this place for a peaceful stay on the river!
