Thank you Alan and Pin! Our trip would not have been the experience it was if not for your kind assistance and advice. Starting with friendly greetings at the airport and transport home, to the transport back to the airport, you really feel like you are living in Chiang Mai rather than just visiting. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and family friendly. If we had chosen to, we could have easily come and gone on our own but we really enjoyed sitting with Alan, Pin, Moohan and Satang and chatting by the pool each morning. Due to Alan's efforts, we were able to add drift carting and elephant poopoo paper park to our itinerary - both of which were lots of fun. Alan also lent us a cell phone which was a big help for calling him when we were out and needed assistance. Pin was able to help us with laundry as we were out most of the day, and arranged an in-house massage for my mother while the rest of us went a wandering. There was access to cold water, drinks and other snacks at all times, as well an easy walk to food stalls down the road, where my son saw someone ride their elephant down the road. Alan also helped us arrange other transport and activities prior to and during our trip. I feel as if Alan and Pin are old friends now and I hope to stay with them again in the future. I forgot to mention, Alan also provided us with a cd as we left with photos that he took when he accompanied us on activities - Great keepsake to add to our photos. There is still lots to experience in Chiang Mai!
I had a nice sized double room, The Trinder's were flexible and hosted my brother over form japan in the single room too, both rooms were nice, spacious and clean with a shared large bathroom in the main house inside a gated community with 24 hour security. Pictures are accurate, and the facilities are very clean and modern. Air con, hot shower, wifi, and a great little pool right outside. Both Alan (Brit.) and his wife Pin (native Thai) are great. With informative knowledge in all things Chiang Mai and Thailand. After the booking, Alan stayed in touch via email and SMS and picked us up from the airport.
Alan really helped with our specific requests for being in Chiang Mai, almost like a personalised holiday, he researched areas of my interest pre arrival so no time was wasted upon my arrival. Alan was concerned that his place was not central enough for us, but it was fine, we planned our day the night before, so one way was via Taxi, the other would be catching up in town and getting a lift back.
Alan was very good with helping me orientate myself in town, as i am very bad with directions, showing us around the city. "Barn Lek" is not in the city center, by any means, but it suited us fine, I've visited thailand a number of times and was only there for specific reasons, it's perfect. The chaotic city center is only 15 mins by cab, it was great to have a place that felt very safe secure and quiet.
I just made sure that i bought snacks etc before going home, as there isn't really a local door step shop, we were basically out early morning and back late evening, swim shower sleep..lol
They do have a massive shopping mall opening within a year?? when that does open, transportation to and from the Trinders would be far easier. I would highly recommend Alan, Pin, Moo han and Satang Trinder's home to anyone. I would certainly stay there again myself without hesitation, as too would my brother in Japan.
Wonderful modern room detached from the main house inside a gated
community with 24 hour security. Pictures are accurate, and the
facilities are very clean and modern. Air con, hot shower, television, wifi, fridge in room and a great little pool right outside your door.
Your hosts, Alan (U.K.) and his wife Pin (native Thai) are great.
Very welcoming and knowledgable in all things Chiang Mai and Thailand.
After the booking, Alan stayed in touch via email and SMS and picked me up at the train station. Also, he was more than willing to show me around the city.
"Barn Lek" which, as I understand it, means; 'little house' in Thai, is not in the city center, by any means, but if you want, like I did, a low pressure transition into Thailand, it's perfect. With as overwhelmingly chaotic as the city center can be, it was great to
have a place that felt very safe and secure and quiet. Chiang Mai has several public transportation options, and it certainly is possible to get; 'into the action' and back, in a relatively economical fashion.
All in all I'd recommend highly, and would certainly stay there again myself without hesitation.
Plus, their two little doggies are a laugh and a half.
Response from Alan:
Thank you Tony for your kind words, much appreciated. The doggies will miss you greatly.
