We are John and Sarah Murphy! We recently moved to the Nashville area from Washington D.C. to be closer to our families. John grew up just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee and Sarah grew up in a small town in Upstate New York just outside of Cooperstown but has serendipitously had her parents, grandparents, and a number of aunts and uncles move to Nashville in the past 10 years or so. When we had our daughter Kaiya last year, it quickly became evident that we needed a bigger support system than we had in D.C. so we tied up loose ends and moved to Nashville!
We have been both been in the hospitality industry for over a decade each, working in some of the most prestigious and world renowned hotels and restaurants in New York, Boston, Las Angeles and Washington, DC. Sarah got a Masters of Management in Hospitality from Cornell’s Hotel School and John is a classically trained chef. Neither of us are still holding day jobs in the hospitality industry, as we wanted to build careers with normal hours that would enable us to be present for the raising of our little girl, but our hearts are very much rooted in the philosophy of hospitality.
Though we consider ourselves “foodies,” our favorite haunts are hole-in-the-wall establishments with giant greasy burgers and freezing cold Coors Light beers. We enjoy authentic ethnic joints like Ethiopian places that make you eat with your hands, and Sushi restaurants where nobody speaks English and the guy behind the counter looks 105 and like he could roll the best damn sushi roll of your life with his eyes closed. We buy local, grow what we can and wholeheartedly support our farmers, our troops and our community.
We would love to meet you and welcome you to our new home.
