Soile's apartment in Helsinki worked out wonderfully for us for our three-night stay. My husband & I were traveling with our 21-month-old son, so it was great that she had a crib & highchair. Everything in her apartment was so nice ... Such nice quality & such interesting artwork, furnishing, & lighting. We arrived later than we originally thought on our first night, close to midnight, & Soile still met us at the apartment ...she helped us learn a little about things to do in Helsinki during our stay. She'd been very helpful giving us some ideas before we came, too, since it was going to be our first visit to Helsinki. Soile was very easy to get a hold of as well, by email & then by phone while we were there. Because we don't speak Finnish, it was super helpful that Soile spoke perfect English! We found that many Finns do, in fact (another testament to their world's-best school system, I suppose). In terms of location, Soile's apartment is very well located, near the Olympic stadium & Sibelius monument, right near lots of busses & trams, & if you want to walk, it's an easy walk (maybe 30 minutes) to Finlandia Hall, the Finnish Museum, & the Kiasma Contemporary Art museum. We loved our time in Helsinki and staying in Soile's apartment was a big part of that.
Soile's place was perfectly positioned in Eira, near the waterfront parks and with easy access to buses and trams (the buses are a little noisy on the cobbled road, but you quickly get used to the sound). It's also walking distance to town and many attractions, but you might want public transport if you're short on time or to go a bit further.
The apartment was tidy and cleverly laid out to make the most of the available space—great for me as a solo traveller, and I think it would suit two people as well (although there is no double bed to accommodate a couple).
Soile was incredibly helpful before I arrived and during my stay. Her dad was also amazing, giving me a welcome that was well above and beyond expectations when I arrived (as Soile was travelling herself at the time). The information sheet provided about the apartment and the local area included everything I needed and more.
I really appreciated the wifi access and the TV had USB ports so I could charge my phone and ipad without needing to buy an adapter.
Two things that potential renters should be aware of ... (1) none of the beds have sprung mattresses—if you have back or neck trouble you might struggle: (2) it is an old building, well maintained but old nonetheless, and has old building smells/mustiness which affected my asthma, so maybe give it a miss if you suffer asthma as well.
If you don't have either of those health concerns, I'd definitely recommend Soile's place in Eira, it's a fabulous base for your visit to Helsinki.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Soile's apartment. It's a true likeness to the images and located in a wonderful area of Helsinki, near to the water and within a short walk to the market square and ferries. A big thank you to her lovely Father, Jarmo, who kindly collected me from the airport.
We very much enjoyed our stay in Soile's tasteful, tranquil and light apartment in elegant Eira. This district of Helsinki is a mouthwatering showcase of Finnish Jugendstil architecture and it was a privilege to have the opportunity to live for a short time in an example of this: the apartment block is splendid! The apartment is perfectly situated for the city centre (an agreeable 15 minute walk or 10 minute tram ride - the 2/3); 1 minute from the front door you are by the sea, and in 5 mins you're in lovely Kaivopuisto (probably Helsinki's most beautiful park). Soile was immensely helpful and considerate, leaving us breakfast (we arrived on a public holiday) and comprehensive instructions and tips. Warmly recommended!
We stayed here for one week as first timers to Helsinki. We do not speak Finnish or Swedish & knew no one in the country.
Soile met us at her place & kindly gave advice about supermarkets, cafés, etc. She was welcoming & followed up with an email later in the week to see if everything was ok.
The location was perfect - a pleasant picturesque walk into the city which is also accessible by tram & bus.
The accommodation was perfect for my daughter & myself - compact, bright & secure.
Soile provided coffee, hot chocolate, milk & butter for us, which we really appreciated. We spent the days out & cooked at home each evening.
We were planning on staying on our return but fell in love with Lappland & decided to extend our stay here.
Comfortable beds, fluffy towels, clean, adequate cooking utensils, inside entry, quiet, homely.
I recommend this host & accommodation.
I spent two weeks in Soile's apartment with my wife and two young children. The apartment was very nice, we liked the location (Töölö) a lot (easy access to the Töölö bay, tramway to the city centre, etc.), and Soile was very accommodating (she found a pack and play, a highchair, etc.)
A really lovely flat and extremely easy to get into town from. The tram stop is at the end of the street and takes you straight to the centre in around 10/15 mins. Soile was a good host and provided us with al the information and maps that we needed for our stay.
The flat isn't as light and airy as it looks in the pictures, but it is lovely. We couldn't find the TV or radio, so I had to rely on my iphone for music, and there isn't wifi so if you don't have european roaming included in your phone package then it could be expensive. All-in-all though, a lovely stay :)
Response from Soile:
Sorry about the TV, it was temporarily away from the apartment. The radio, however, is sitting on the high shelf by the window. Too bad that you did not notice it!

Scandinavian bright design together with Asian decor details highlights Soile's sense of style and way of life.
Good location, 1 min walk to Mannerheimintie - one of the main city's streets. 24h open Alepa supermarket located on it; so you can buy any kind of food there.
You may stay with your pets I'm considering this like big plus. Two our dachshunds were happy.
In spite of our late check-in after midnight Soile was very kind to meet us on the way to Helsinki and provided with all necessary instructions and keys.
This flat is very comfortable for 4 adults and we've spent great 3 days in Helsinki.
Many thanks to Soile and her hospitality.
Soile and Eira have become family friends. They are excellent guests and we enjoyed having them with us.
Soile and her daughter are model guests. They are both old China-hands, and know their way around Beijing, we didn't need to assist them in anyway.
Soile and Eira were nice house guests. I think my dogs loved their visit more than anyone else, as they enjoyed the constant attention from Eira. They are EXTREMELY respectful, and quiet and excellent guests. Happy Trails to you both, Jeff
Both Soile and her daughter were a delightful addtion to the house. This was the first time I considered children in the house since I was concerned that my little French bulldog may be a bit overwhelming for a young person to manage. To my delight, both child and dog bonded nicely and became close friends within minutes.I would welcome them back anytime.
Soile and her daughter were wonderful guest. Will look forward to the day they might come back stateside to see them again. If I ever get a chance, I would love to stay at her flat in Finland.
