This 43rd story studio was in the heart of Waikiki and was within walking distance of several attractions. It was an incredibly convenient space with a beautiful view. Sam's description of the unit was spot on and the hardwood floors were new.
The covered lanai was also lovely and gave us a good view of Waikiki beach and a canal and golf course.
Sam was very welcoming and greeted us at the front of the building when we arrived. The apartment itself was well appointed with everything we'd need for the week: fresh towels, beach towels, a snorkel mask, pots/pans and other cooking stuff, and a great air conditioning unit (which we didn't even need to use much if we just turned on the fan and left the window open).
One criticism of the building itself was that the walls are fairly thin, and it seemed that someone down the hall burned something. The smell of this was pretty strong for a couple days. Other than that, neighbors were respectful and friendly, and there seemed to be lots of other vacationers visiting the seaside island colony.
Thanks for helping us have a great honeymoon!
Absolutely loved this place!! Sam was nice enough to allow me to stay for 3 months in this place and it worked out perfectly!! The location is perfect. 3 blocks from the beach and down the street from major shopping, hotels, and restaurants. The place was very clean and had everything I needed: queen bed, pullout couch, dresser, cable tv and Internet, closest, fridge and 2 top stove. It even had a window ac unit which is very hard to find in Hawaii!! There is parking on site and security to make you feel safe. Sam was very welcoming, easy to get a hold of and in the building if I were to have needed anything. I will definitely be coming back and would stay here again!! Aloha and mahalo Sam and Junko!
Sam was a great host, sending through all the info we needed in advance and being readily available for any assistance required.
The condo is a good size, with good amenities both in the room and in the hotel complex. A short walk to the beach and the shops and restaurants of Waikiki. Fantastic views! We can thoroughly recommend this condo.
One thing to be aware of, particularly for those from colder climates like ourselves, is that the air conditioning only cools the bedroom and is quite noisy and pricey to run (electricity is charged separately, albeit at reasonable rates). Opening up the windows provides a nice breeze but ideally we would have preferred more efficient air con.
But overall, a great base for your time in Waikiki. Thanks Sam.
Fabulous accomodation! It had everything I needed and more. The hosts were real friendly and helpful. Would definately stay here again.
We were happily met by our host Sam, who showed us to our room. Great view. Cozy. And had a stovetop burner which we totally used :) Stayed for 8 lovely days ! During which time we spent some time poolside by the saltwater pool, and ate lunches at the diner in the main lobby. As well to note the 6th floor convenience store was used and we were happy with that too !
Overall great experience !
Thanks Sam !! You're the man ;)
What a find! I met Sam only recently, and stayed in his property for the first time after having visited and spent time in other Air BnB's. First, he's a charmer. Second, he takes great pride in the home and consequently expects that same pride of temporary ownership from a renter. Hopefully I provided him with that because I've already extended my vacation in his home by one...and then yet another week! The spot is ideal, and if you bike it is on the Ala Wai canal bike trail (safe for biking). Everything is so close and BEST...there's a fab convenience store with everything in it, right in the building (like a small ABC store...everything from mustard to laundry detergent to liquor). And ice machine (so you can fill up before going to the beach and have a cold pop there) and washer/dryers. Didn't use the pool (why? there's a beach!!) but I gather it would be lovely. Oh, and 24 hour security. That's so important. And they are great guys, as well. So in all, you can't find fault. Oh, great internet, great TV, great aircon in the bedroom, very, very, very spacious.
The Condo is very well located, clean, and has everything you need if you want to cook a little. We had a problem with the microwave and Sam and Junko were very reactive and replaced it in the hour.
The wifi is a little slow but you're not in Hawaii to spend your time on the internet. The view from the balcony is great and the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and laundry service of the 6th floor are very nice and convenient!
Our hosts was very helpful and friendly. The unit was situated in a very good place. We could walk to a lot of the places we wanted to go to and if we couldn't walk then it was very easy to get transport. Most of the tour buses dropped us off at the building or very close to. The views were beautiful from the living area and from the balcony off the bedroom. The unit was a little older and smaller than the pictures show but it served our purpose. We had a great holiday.
We had to book a 1 bedroom condo with Sam at the Island Colony within a week of arriving on island. I have nothing but good things to say about Sam. Met us for check in and made things real simple. The condo was great love the location and the pictures that Sam has of his unit on the 35th floor do not do it justice. The views were great, you can see from Diamond Head out to west coast of Oahu. From the Balcony off the Master is a great view of the fireworks Friday nights and also a great partial ocean view and of the canal and the mountains. We have stayed at Island Colony before and it sits on one of the best blocks in Waikiki in my opinion. Basically its in the middle of everything, there is a store for last minute items and the grills are always good for cooking some dinner. I would recommend Sams condo to anyone who wants a great value with a great view in Waikiki. Thanks Sam!!!
We just arrived back in Washington DC after a nice and relaxing 7 day stay in beautiful Oahu. Sam and Junko were very accomodating hosts. They met my husband and I in the lobby of the Island Colony building and took us to this cute condo up on the 35th floor. The first thing we noticed was the wonderful ocean and city view from the living room window. There is also nice breezes coming in but if you prefer it colder, there is an AC unit which cools the whole unit pretty well if leave the bedroom door open. The TV was nice with cable options and the couch/furniture was functional and comfortable. The couch converts to a bed but we never needed to use it. The kitchen is well equipped with all pots/pans/utensils/plates/glasses. There wasn't much in the cabinets so if you plan on cooking, you def need to bring or buy basics (oil/spices/coffee/etc) Other vacation rentals I have stayed at usually have a good basic pantry of staple items to work with so that was a bit of a challenge. I guess this is not their responsibility to provide but it has been a nice bonus in our previous vacations. Otherwise, it was very functional and I even used the tupperware and aluminum foil to pack snacks/sandwiches for the beach. If you are not interested in cooking there are a ton of dining options right outside your door from high end dining, to casual fast food. One of our favorites was Marukame Udon just a block or 2 away for cheap and yummy ramen, there is always a line! Also there is a Food Pantry grocery store a couple blocks away not to mention a few convenience stores nearby for sodas, snacks, etc. and also one on the 6th floor which can be a total lifesaver! Nice pool/jacuzzi/sauna also located on 6th floor and if you plan to grill there are nice stainless steel grills on this floor as well. The bedroom was nice and cozy, bed is a bit firm but we prefer this so it was no problem for us. Bathroom was small but clean and functional. Lanai had a beautiful city/mountain view and especially nice in the evening during sunset. The AC unit is a bit loud if you are sitting out there and it does leak when its on, so just be aware of this. There were plenty of towels, which came in handy for the beach. This condo is about a 10 min walk to the beach which is no too bad. Condo was overall clean and comfortable and we will recommend it to anyone. Other, than this, we were very happy with our stay and would love to come back! We left our orange floating bed in the closet so enjoy if you can in the ocean or pool! :-)
