I am a retired mother of two adult daughters who both live in Toronto. My home is in Barrie about one to one and a half hours drive north of Toronto and about a one hour drive to my family cottage in Bala.
We had a beautiful experience here at Sheila's lovely cottage. In spite of inclement weather, the views from all the windows, the beautiful trees and shoreline of Long Lake and the Fall colours made our trip as memorable as anyone could wish. Not only that, but Sheila was a friendly, helpful and accommodating host who made us feel welcome and showed all the many amenities. I felt right at home when looking at the books provided I saw LM Montgomery's Bala-based novel The Blue Castle! There are so many pluses to the cottage, with lovely views from all the many windows to super-comfy beds. It was quite cold, so we were glad of the heating. Bala is very close, as are the Hardy Lake trails. It is right on the road, but as someone else said, once you're in the cottage or on the dock you don't really notice it. We would have liked to be able to canoe more and enjoy the fire pit, but sadly the rain stopped us. All the more to look forward to on our next trip! :)
A lovely comfortable cottage that has character and charm. My stay was business related so with exception to barbecuing one night, I didn't enjoy the coastline although I did wake each morning to enjoy the view from the living room.
Although Sheila and I never met, our online communication was perfect to answer all questions and gain access.
We had a wonderful stay at the Sequoia House. The cottage had absolutely everything we needed and was very cozy. The view of the lake is spectacular and we enjoyed spending the day on the dock in the sun. Would highly recommend to anyone. Sheila and I spoke on the phone and she gave lots of very detailed information, which made getting there and the entire stay very easy.
Glorious little cottage on a breathtaking lake -- had everything one would need. I was initially a little nervous because it was closer to a main road than I expected, but after stepping out back onto the dock on the lake the whoosh of cars absolutely receded. Sheila was a very responsive and helpful host who patiently answered any questions and thoroughly explained the place. And the location, in the heart of cottage country, was just gorgeous. Thanks again Sheila!
This was our first Cottage experience in Canada and it was a wonderful one. Impressive view from the window, nice lake for Swimming and other funny things, spectacular sunsets. The Cottage is cozy, well equipped and offers a lot of things to do. Everything works, was clean and a nice folder with Information, tips and additional material is provided. Sheila is a perfect host, she gave us a warm welcome, provided all Information required and answered all our questions (before booking as well as after Arrival). As a conclusion, we can recommend Sheila’s cottage without any restrictions.
What a wonderful way to spend my vacation week! Sheila was a fantastic host and her family cottage was everything we could have asked for and more. Absolutely breathtaking view of the lake, and conveniently located across the road from a small store which sold firewood, propane and home baked goods.
Weather was perfect, beds were comfortable, canoe was in good repair. Will be bookmarked as a return spot in the future.
Sheila was a very generous host. We had no problems during our stay, and the cottage was clean and sunny, with a surprisingly good shower. Lots of wildlife-- we spotted a fox and a very curious large turtle. The only thing I could have wished for was a more isolated location, as this cottage is near the highway. It's not loud at all, but it doesn't have the feeling of a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Someone else might find it convenient and perfect. Other than that, no complaints. I recommend this cottage and Sheila.
We had a wonderful stay at Sheila's place. It's a cute fully-equipped cottage just two minutes away from Bala (by car). The sights from the cottage are just breathtaking! Sheila was very welcoming and attentive at all times. If you are looking to get rid of stress it's a perfect place: peace and quietness, canoeing, a beautiful location and no TV! We would come back anytime without a second thought.
Sheila was really great to be in contact with, she has always been reactive and helpful for preparing our trip.
Her cottage is well located, we went canoeing, walked some trails, and rented a boat nearby on the Muskoka Lake.
The cottage is perfect for 4 people and we really enjoyed the spot for making our own fire outside.
We could only have wished a warmer weather.
Could not have had a better cottage experience! The view from the cottage was gorgeous and cottage itself was clean and cosy. Sheila was a very accommodating renter and was always available to answer any questions about our trip.
The Bala region also had a lot to offer from the famous Don's Bakery, to numerous hiking trails and its own winery.
Would definitely stay here again!
