I love this place! The food Dilashs aunt is cooking is delicious, the place is just a litte path away from the beach (a few meters), the city center is just about 15 minutes walk or three minutes by tuk tuk. It is simple but clean.
But what I realy liked the most is the family. They are so friendly and kind people. They will always try to help you, if you need something or have any questions. And Dilini is a sunshine! ;-)
Dilash's family were very welcoming and friendly. They live in a small house on the beach a 7 min walk to all the action. When I arrived there were 5 guests. 8 people for 1 bathroom is too much. The amenities need to be worked on eg powerpoints that work and the water pressure was non existant. They are lovely people and I wish them all the best.
The house is located on the first line at the very end of Hikkaduwa towards Gale. Less mosquitoes, not so noisy. From home at the beach. But to swim next to the house is difficult because of the high waves. Very friendly hostess. We rented two rooms. The room size small 5-6 m2. Bed, Desk and chair. I would really like to have at least some wardrobe, but there was only a wooden drying rack. The king bed is actually regular small double bed))). The rooms are clean. Above the bed is a four poster bed, but we did not use them. Also in each room, ceiling fans. The owners can offer for a fee, Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Laundry facilities. Shared toilet, no hot water. The biggest plus is the location and sincere lady.
My friend and had took two rooms with Dilini at her place. Communication form the outset was clear and responsive. It was easy to find the place by tuk Tuk from Hikkaduwa train station (it's a 150 rupee / 10 min ride) Dilini and her mum were waiting for us on the street by the house. Had a lovely stay with Dilini. Very friendly and helpful hostess. We ate breakfast most days (good fresh fruit and simple Sri Lankan fare. ) . Room was clean and simple with own semi private access. Best bit about this place is the proximity to the beach, just walk out the back garden and you are there. Lovely almost private beach spot as its a little way out of town (a 5 min Tuk Tuk or 15 min walk along the beach) . Recommended if you are on a budget, want beach and friendly Sri Lankan hospitality.
Eric was not with us for the whole period he booked but still was gentlemen enough to not to persuade us to alternate the booking plans. An amazing guest any host could have :)
Dilash's family is friendly and they nicely welcomed us to their home. The house has two guest rooms and one shared bathroom which was not that clean as we have expected and sometimes there was no hot water. Everything is basic equipted, but it was enough for us. We enjoyed the location, which is 20m from the beach.
The communication was a little bit complicated, because only Dilashs cousin spoke english. For additional cost her mother Lalitha cooked dinner and breakfest for us even though we were not hungry and did not order food. We think it was a misunderstanding coused by the language barrier.
But generaly speeking we enjoyed our stay in Hikkaduwa.
We haven't meet Dilash but his family took care about us. Small but clean room, one problem was common bathroom. Close to the beach although there are not much facilities at the beach for the tourists and the waves here are strong if you want to swim or sit in bar by the sea you have to go Hikkaduwa which is 15-20 min walk. It also concerns shops, bars and restaurants - you have to walk or drive to Hikkaduwa. Hikkaduwa is very commercial place which makes the prices high, this includes also delicious but a little bit expensive local meals at homestay (compering to another places).
This room comfortable and clean, with fan and mosquito net. Nearby is the beach and the bus stop. Home owners are friendly and responsive, attentive and caring. Also nearby there are cafes and restaurants.
Have a pleasant stay and time!:-)
A lovely simple room in a warmly welcoming family home. I was greeted after an extremely long trip with a warm pot of ginger tea and a lovely dinner of fish curry. Dilash's auntie is an amazing cook and so very welcoming. This is a great place to base yourself if you're going to be exploring the area.
Lalitha and Pawithra were very welcoming, kind, and endearing hosts. The room was basic, equipped with a mosquito net and a fan which, however completely served our needs. The bathroom also quite basic with a flush toilet and shower and sink.
The home itself is a few steps away to the less touristy part of the beach. The house is on the main road and convenient to amenities like restaurants, grocery stores, the bus stop and train station.
Lalitha is an outstanding cook, serving traditional Sri Lankan dishes, which can be purchased at reasonable cost. For other eating options, Kuma, a fellow who has a cabana at beach entrance from the house, is also an excellent cook.
We felt we were living with family, and it was difficult to move onto the next part of our travels.
If you are looking for a true Sri Lankan, cultural experience, definitely stay here!
