Morgan's place is very well located on top of a metro station a few stops from the Bell tower. This is super useful in Xi'an. Most tourist attractions are easily reached from here.
The place itself is ok with the shower being a bit dodgy at the time of our visit. The bed is super comfortable and the linen was clean. Air condition worked well in the blistering summer heat. The kitchen seemed good but we did not need to use it. The rest of the place is spacious but basic with little storage furniture, etc. However everything in the photos is accurate.
Morgan and his wife were super helpful with Chinese issues. Hey are very responsive and will answer you very quickly. They went out of their way to make sure we got a good deal on tours etc. They were indispensable at certain times because in Xi'an it can be quite difficult to communicate.
Good stay in Xi'an for a few nights. If you're looking for a comfortable accommodation for a longer time it can get slightly harder.
Morgans place was amazing! The place was nice and comfortable. When it said there was a subway near by they weren't kidding; basically a left out of the door! It made traveling so much easier and convenient. Even though Morgan wasn't in Xi'an the days we were there it was easy I get a hold of him to have is mom take us (by taxi) to the places we wanted to go. While staying there we visited the Terracotta worriers, drum and bell towers, and the city walls. Wonderful place!
We stayed at Morgans Apt for 3 nights from 30th May to 2nd June. The apt is located on 26th floor in a multi-storey building in northern part of the city. The location is very convenient as the sub way station - line 2 is located just at the corner. From there the 4th stop leads you to the City Wall and the 5th or 6th stop to the Bell Tower and Great Mosque (Muslim Quarter). Also there are is a mall and several eateries all around the building. Morgans mother-in-law picked us up in her taxi from the airport (RMB 150 each way) and next day we utilized her services to visit the Terracotta Army which is about 1 hr drive from the apt (RMB 400). Further on 2nd June she also dropped us back to the airport. Though she does not speak english but then the schedule can be finalised with Morgan or his wife and she would accordingly be informed. The apt had all the necessary facilities - air conditioner, excellent wifi, kitchen. The toilet though was quite small. From the bedroom you get a view of the street and the Sheraton hotel is across the street. Language is a bit of a problem in Xian as we had to struggle to find someone speaking english. Also it is quite difficult to get a city map in english. You can get one at the Tourist Information centre near Drum Tower or in the shops leading to the underground passage from Bell Tower to Drum Tower. The city is really worth a visit and specially the lighting around the Bell and Drum Tower and the City Wall.
Morgan's Appartement was just perfect for us. He wasn't in town so his mom came to meet us and got us into the Place. It's very well located only 15 minutes away from Railway Station by Bus (no. 39). Also there's a Subway Line taking you to the touristy places. The Place is clean, new and offers everything needed for a short term stay.
Right next to the Building you'll find food stalls with amazing and cheap food every evening. Also Morgan was very helpful in finding out about how to get to the nearby Panda Reserve and wrote down everything in Chinese so the Bus Drivers would understand. A Service almost as good as in big Hotels!
Morgan was very helpful in coordinating pick-up to and from the airport with his mother. The apartment was very nice and the wifi was the best we had on our entire trip through China! Definitely recommended.
The apartment is very close to the subway so its very convenient for traveling. Morgan is a great host. Although he wasn't in Xian the weekend I booked the apartment, his mom was there to help us. Will definitely recommend!
Morgan and his mom were lovely hosts. Morgan was quick to respond to my questions. Check in and out was super easy. His mom also drove us around town, even with limited english she was super helpful.
The space itself was quite central and convenient, hard to beat having your apartment located immediately ABOVE the metro station. The room was sparse, but had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The were a lot of food vendors right outside the apartment for a cheap dinner and late night snacks. Xian is a fabulous town with a lot so see beyond the Terracotta Warriors. We stayed 2 nights and could have done 3 or 4 easily. Thanks Morgan for opening your home up to us.
highly recommended apartment.
although it is not located within the walls, is very well connected, and reach the city center by subway does not take more than 10 minutes.
although Morgan was not in the town, the communication was very easy.
his mother took care of the transfers to / from the airport, and the visit to xian warriors. and though she does not speak English, is a great hostess.
the only objections -including the problem with shower drain- is the very poor kitchen equipment, and there is no washer machine.
To his credit Morgan was always lovely and tried to be helpful where possible (his uncle advised that he did not live in Xi'an, he is in Beijing and as such Morgan does everything over the phone via his family) but we were extremely let down and dissatisfied with the accommodation and would not recommend staying here.
Pro's: Having access to a driver if needed, reliable Internet, access to public transport, comfortable bed
Con's: Location, dirtiness of the high rise building complex you are in, speed (and lack of working) elevators, kitchen (pointless), bathroom (no drainage or ability to prevent water from going everywhere), overwhelming cigarette smoke in room, room cleanliness (the room we moved to on the last night was cleaner)
Upon arrival at the airport (Morgan’s uncle picked us up ) we were advised that we had been 'upgraded' to a new apartment unfortunately the room had overwhelming cigarette smoke in the apartment, it was awful and we did not unpack our bags so as not to get smoke in all our clothes (we avoided the apartment as much as we could). When we enquired (within hours of arriving) about the non-smoking room we had booked Morgan said it was not available as someone else was staying in it (which was extremely disappointing considering that is what we had paid for). Morgan did eventually make available a non-smoking room for our last night and gave us a phone to call him if we needed anything, but as he was not able to provide the room we booked or a non-smoking room there was nothing that could be done.
The building is run down and the 2 rooms we experienced did not feel new at all (maybe new for Morgan). We often waited 5 minutes to get the lift required to get to our level or back down again and often the lift the doors jammed. The kitchen did not have the basic items required for cooking so we did not use it. The washing machine was put where you shower so it got wet when you showered next to it and as the bathroom (in both rooms) does not drain well there was always water on the floor.
The internet and TV did work. The location is great for access to public transport to get to the city wall with a 10 minute train trip, but the area where this (approximately) 30 level high rise is located was the least desirable of all the places we saw.
Morgan’s Mum, uncle and uncle in law (who did our airport pick up/drop off and Terracotta Warriors drop off) were all lovely (they do not speak any English but were lovely) and just drive their private cars (not a taxi) we recommend being very clear if you want a non-smoking room if you choose to book this accommodation.
