I live and work (Roof of Africa Hotel) in Windhoek. I bought this property to have a base in Europe when I visit my family in Berlin where I grow up.
Torsten apartment is located in one of the best Berlin area with lot of nice shops, restaurants and clubs. It is very near the U station and lot of other amenities are keep on hand!
The apt. is clear, comfortable and bright because of big Windows in each room. I really want to came back in Berlin joining more time and live as a Berliner in Torsten apt!
The area is great with lots of restaurants and cafes (don't forget to try the sandwiches and coffee at the tiny cafe The Dairy on the opposite side of the park). The appartment is relatively newly renovated, and as such it is fine, and it is functional. But be aware that this is a not an appartment anyone lives in. So the whole experience is quite transactional, and the appartment has as much personality as a livingroom in an IKEA store. Great if you are essentially looking for a hotel appartment, but if you are after a more personal experience, and a host who will share his/her favorite restaurants etc. then this is not your place
It's nice that the apartment is in the back of the building, very quiet. Nicely decorated, bright, good beds, great kitchen outfit, washer/dryer, 3d TV. All you could want. And in a great location, easy access by public transportation. The park has some local drunks, which can be intimidating, but the locals sitting outside in the cafe's don't seem to mind, so you shouldn't either. Nice bakery/coffee bar to the left, good restaurants in the streets nearby. Quick and efficient welcome/key drop off/departure. We really enjoyed high speed wifi for quick internet searches, email etc.
Fin lejlighed med god beliggenhed. De praktiske ting omkring opholdet fungerede gnidningsløst. Der var hvad vi - en familie på 4 - havde brug for til en forlænget weekend.
Great apartment in a fantastic location. Easy to contact Torsten and also Elva who manages the check-in/out. Very highly recommended. Nothing more to say really!
Torston's apartment was very comfortable, roomy, clean and well-equipped. The location was excellent being about 8 to 10 minutes walk to metro stations and tram stops. The area has great ambience with a wide selection of cafes and restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay a great deal. The building is on a small park, Helmholtzplatz, that has a scruffy charm. There’s a playground filled with small children and in the center some ping pong tables that seem to be the domain of some slightly frightening paramilitary types and drunks. Appealing cafes surround and the neighborhood was lively with a mixture of families and young people – perhaps too lively. One night around 4:00 AM we were awakened by someone buzzing the doorbell! That aside, the apartment is quiet due to its location at the back of the courtyard. There’s a central corridor with bathroom, kitchen and one bedroom on one side. Living/dining room and another bedroom are opposite. On the kitchen side, each room is the same width making for a spacious bathroom and an extremely narrow bedroom. On the other side, the living room is comfortably proportioned but the bedroom is also pretty narrow. Some reviewers found the place dark and damp. This was not our experience. Although it doesn’t have expansive views, the exposures are pleasant and there was decent air circulation. The owner doesn’t occupy the apartment, so while it’s furnished comfortably there’s not much decoration. It also didn’t have much in the way of toilet paper. I fully expect to buy my own when staying in an AirB&B but it would be nice to not have it be the very first thing I do after traveling for sixteen hours because there’s less than a quarter of a roll. The apartment was clean but as others have noted, there were some little signs of inattention. A bucket of mop water was left in the bathroom; there were glasses in the dishwasher – dirty? clean? Who knows? Since the owner isn’t present he’s hired a woman to greet renters and deal with the property. She was efficient but a bit coolish. We appreciated that she was at the apartment when we arrived some thirty minutes earlier than arranged, but she did some little things which were kind of annoying and in my view a bit inhospitable. Some examples: We’d been informed in advance that a second set of keys would require a deposit of €75. Having just gotten money from an ATM, I didn’t have exact change. I asked if 70 would suffice. “80 would be better,” she said. OK. When she showed us around the apartment, she pointed out extra towels but threatened us with an additional charge if we used them. We had an early flight out of Berlin on the day we were to leave and she needed to come to the apartment to retrieve the keys (and return our €80) but told us if she came at 7:00 or earlier there’d be €20 surcharge. I suggested she come the evening before but she rejected that idea. None of this was a big deal and didn’t negatively affect our stay but, coupled with the fact that she didn’t smile, it left a bit of an...
Nice apartment in perfect neighborhood!
Our family of four (two children of ages 3 and 8) stayed there for a week, and we were very satisfied with everything.
This apartment is very clean and very functional. We stayed for one week--3 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of room for all. My only complaint is that it is on the ground floor and in the rear of the building, which makes for a bit of a dark and damp environment. While it is comfortable, we didn't really want to spend much time there. That said, the neighborhood is fantastic--the absolute best coffee I think I have ever had IN THE WORLD is served next door, along with the best pastries ever. If you are looking for a reasonable and well-equipped apartment, but don't expect a ton of ambience, this is a good place.
- Great location! Lots of nice shops, cafes, restaurants and bars nearby and only a few hundred meters to S-bahn, U-bahn and several trams.
- The flat is very well equipped: plenty of space to store your things, really comfortable beds, dishwasher, washer & dryer, brand new kitchen appliances, 3D tv, hair dryer, coffee maker, toaster etc.
- Well-functioning & fast WLAN connection
- 2 actual bedrooms with double beds --> nice for e.g. two couples, as no one has to sleep in the living room
- Flexible check-in & check-out, good communication with the host
- As we arrived, we felt as if the cleaning had been done in a bit of a hurry. Nothing too bad though, just a couple of dirty tabletops and some dust-balls here and there.
Decide for yourself:
- The apartment is on the ground floor --> no particular views and not that much natural light.
- We found the flat a little cold and damp, especially the living room. Then again us Finns are used to a relatively high standard of living in this sense, so this might be just a question of different tastes and customs.
- This is a rental flat, not anybody's home. If you are looking for some local color and home-like coziness, you might want to pick another accommodation.
Fantastic location! Out of the front door, there's a beautiful park right in the middle of the city! The apartment is furnished to the detail. Very cozy and comfortable. With the smart TV, an evening stay in ( very rarely in Berlin) could be just as much entertaining with the 3D screen. I can rightly say, this is better than home - as home sometimes isn't so complete with facilities as this apartment! Highly recommended!
