Alberto Caeiro, Alvaro de Campos, Fernando Pessoa's heteronyms all appear in our minds, just when we see the shepherd with his flock and real sheep dogs. While we are driving back to Cabeça da Cabra, to Maria Costa's wonderful refurbished Escola Primaria, right after a dive in the ocean at Praia do Malhao. Where the ocean is really an ocean. During our time in Cabeça da Cabra we will pass the shepherd a few times, and he greets us with his eyes and a wave, like he knows us.
Of course we can compliment Maria's delicious breakfast with fresh juice (every morning a different flavour) and tasty other things. Of course we can mention the fact that only nice guests seem to appear in her pleasant environment. But this is something that all guests can decide for themselves.
The plain facts are: In the night, the sky above Maria's garden shows more bright stars than you will ever have seen before. And no one makes better route descriptions to poetic, rural, adventurous or tasty places (carefully drawn on napkins) than Maria does. Alentejo shows it's best in Maria's area. While sun sets, you will see beautiful cork oaks or pine trees in vivid green, more beautiful than anywhere else!
We have collected a first bit of knowledge about why Maria wants to show us Alentejo at it's best. On to the next experience in Alentejo, in other words: We will be back!

Super nice re-built primary school, with tastfully decorated rooms (I loved the bathroom!). Maria and Rosaria (was that her name? :)) were excellent hosts and the area is really nice. We were happy visitors and hope to be back one day.
Maria is a super nice host.Every morning she prepared a lovely breakfast with fresh juices. On top she had a lot of good tips for nice places. The rooms are very fancy and clean. We had a great stay!
Thank you for the wonderful stay at your place. Everything was perfect!

Cabeça da Cabra is an amazing place full of enjoyable things: peaceful nights and quiet afternoons, glorious sunsets and colourful mornings, lovely breakfasts and tasteful rooms, cute kittens and friendly dogs, well maintained gardens with a lingering smell of sage.
Maria is just the nicest host and she's so heartwarming she'll make you feel at home and wanting to never leave. Can't wait to go back!
wow were should I start? everything was perfect. Maria is so nice, her apartments really wonderful. We could relax here and forget about all worries at home. The best place to stay in Portugal, its peaceful and harmonious. The breakfast was delicious, thank you. Maria´s insider tips were helpful, we had a great time at that beach. We already miss the time there and would love to come back. One day if we will come back to Portugal, we definitley will come back to Maria´s apartment.
Where do I begin? Maria is a gentle, kind woman with impeccable taste. We stayed with her for 2 nights and it surpassed our expectations. From the beautiful garden out front, to the little neighborhood dog running around the premise, we had an unforgettable
experience. Our room was nothing short of
gorgeous and Maria was very helpful when it came to giving us tips regarding the area. We will never forget our time at Cabeca da Cabra and appreciate people like Maria that follow their dreams and lets us share in them. Obrigada, Maria!
It was a very nice place to be. The location of an old school is amazing. Maria is a very lovely host and the breakfast was very good. A perfect place for discover the coast close to Porto Covo.
very elegant women, also inspiring, ı appreciate her gratefulness, cleanness, calmness, she is always welcome..
Maria is the kindest of hosts and the sweetest of persons.
I have stayed at Maria's several times and I can fairly say that, besides being a great friend, she is also the perfect hostess. I don't know how she does it, but her house is always clean and everything in its right place. Her house has great light and she made it so confortable, in every corner you can find something she brought from her own travels.
She knows Coimbra like the back of her hand and is always ready to help you get around and recommend the best stuff to see and do in the city. So, if you are planning to stay in Coimbra, Maria's is the place to be!
Maria's home is better then the pictures beautiful, and having lived in the city, I can't recommend a better place to stay. Your host is warm, welcoming, helpful; Maria offers a well of information pertaining to Portuguese culture and the city itself. She shares hard to discover, inside tips with her guests on places to see and things to do whether in search of old world tourist sites, trendy cafes, artist events, or outdoor activities. Anything and everything. My time in Coimbra wouldn't have been nearly as wonderful without knowing her. If you come to the Coimbra, stay here! You will see the city in a whole new way!
