Hilary and her partner Catherine were terrific and charming guests, and I would be delighted to have them stay at any of my apartments again!
Hilary and her partner had to cancel out at the last minute due to illness last Christmas. Luckily, by September, they were able to travel again and she rebooked the apt despite the plethora of new apts available in Paris. She was very good at communicating their needs and keeping me updated with their schedule changes. Very independent travelers and I would not hesitate to rent to them again.
Well, thanks to Hilary's scathing criticism of my friend's place, I have removed the listing from airbnb so this apartment will now sit vacant while the owner is away. I tried my best to provide quality accommodations at a fair price but I have to work with the constraints of the owner. The pictures posted are pretty accurate and they show the owner's(not necessarily mine or anyone else') particular eye for artwork. I thought when Hilary was asking about clutter that she was asking if there was much stuff in addition to what the pictures show.
To avert criticisms of being dirty, I had my daughter, at my expense, as I don't get compensated for my friend's place, go in and clean before Hilary's arrival. I even went with her to pick up the cleaning products and explained how I wanted the floors cleaned by hand, which she did in addition to other cleaning. The towels and linens were all fresh. I admit that I hadn't inspected the drawers but I know the bath and kitchen surfaces including the refrigerator were clean. While I don't particularly care for my friend's choice in seating, I was there when he bought the chairs new about 2 years ago so I wouldn't consider them "old:.
At Hilary's request, I went out and had a 2nd key set made and bought extra hangers. When she inquired about an extra light bulb and paper towels, I immediately called the owner, who put a call into maintenance to get the items requested. I'm not sure if all was fulfilled but I was prepared to go there and take care of any issue myself, including cleaning anything that was not clean.
I understand that $300/night is expensive but a private apartment in a building with a doorman located just steps away from Central Park in the high 60's and window exposure to the North, South, and West with a quality queen bed that is less than 1 year old shouldn't leave someone feeling "completely ripped off". I accept that Hilary feels that way but I would be more inclined to believe that a feeling of, at most, a little overcharged would be more accurate.
Hilary seemed very pleasant in our conversations and email correspondence and she was nice when we met in person.
Catherine and Denise stayed with us for 9 days in the summer and they were a total delight. They were here to see the SF opera's complete Ring Cycle, a 5-day opera extravaganza, which we thought was a very cool reason to visit. Both Catherine and her mother Denise where friendly, thoughtful, and they seemed to really enjoy the city and our house. Have them as your guests if you can!
Hilary was a great guest and very easy going. The apartment was left in great shape, and we hope to see her again. Highly recommend her to other AIrBNB hosts.
Hillary was a wonderful guest. Nice, respectful and upbeat. Thanks for staying!
