I'm from Dublin, where I run a healthfood store, and also an organic farm in the countryside. I'm a food obsessive, and love all things attached to food culture. *Includes eating.

The place was perfect! Finn's place was a clean and cozy Irish country experience. The location was perfect for our family of four as a home base for a week of exploring Ireland. The stone house was warmed by two turf fireplaces, comfy beds, a clean washroom with tub and shower (and plenty of hot water) and a great kitchen. We absolutely love staying here!
The Herd House is a wonderful house in the most beautiful setting. Although we are staying over the colder winter months, we can still sense how magical it is here.. And in the summer it will be glorious.
The house is surrounded by a small organic working farm and sits just above the lakes. The wildlife here is fantastic. It's wonderfully isolated, so very peaceful, yet the nearest little town with all you need is only 10 minutes drive away. You could also take a day trip to Dublin, quite manageable, and there's a very handy bus that gets you straight to the airport. It's one and a half hours drive to Westport which is a really lovely place, and it's a must to drive along some of the stunning Wild Atlantic Route whilst over there.
The house is great. Rustic yet modern facilities. Great open plan kitchen with dining table and a very powerful wood-burning stove, so perfect for cooking up some great food and enjoying by the fire. If you want to relax there's a great sofa and another open fire in the sitting room. Beds are super comfortable too.
We were welcomed by the lovely Ted and Christine who had left us some of their yummy own-grown organic salad leaves and they are nearby and on hand at all times. So kind and great company. The house was beautifully clean on arrival and they had also lit the stove and so it was the perfect arrival on a cold January afternoon.
Great walks from the house. Overall it's the perfect get-away for true peace and reflection. Highly recommend and we are staying another month just to prove it!
What a beautiful place to stay, not only were the hosts welcoming and only too happy to help, but they'd warmed it up for us, brought us freshly cut salad and made out the sofa bed too! As well as great hosts the cottage itself was beautiful and extremely homely. It was easily the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Thank you so much for a brilliant stay along with breathtaking views day and night! Not much compares.
I was looking for a quiet retreat for a weekend and this certainly didn't disappoint, from the warm welcome by Christine through to the complimentary Salad the whole experience was very pleasant and relaxing. I enjoyed the setting and style of the property so much that I am certain I will be back for another relaxing weekend.
Our stay at Herd House was very nice. It was so nice to have a place to ourselves for our last week in Ireland, but still have a place to cook. We had fun looking at all the cows and my husband especially enjoyed counting the calves to see if any had been born while we had been out. The view is beautiful, especially when you catch a morning mist.
Finn and his associated Christine were very accommodating and addressed any issues we had right away. They were great about responding quickly and were good about explaining things to us. We would definitely recommend a stay here.
What a lovely place to stay! My partner and I were charmed by the photographs, but in reality the cottage was even more charming. Some of the views overlooking the lake at sunset were really quite stunning.
The bed is comfortable, and the heating works quite efficiently; we stayed during late May, but the nights became so cold that when outside I wore my goose down jacket. Our host had prepared a lovely peat fire in the living room, all ready to go upon our arrival, but unfortunately we were so busy out and about that we could not use it. The kitchenware is sufficient for basic cooking (pasta, casseroles, stews), though you might want to bring some bowls with you if you intend to serve soup, cereal, etc.
Our hosts were very helpful whenever we had any questions. We look forward to returning again!
Finn is a very nice host, it was cool to receive him in my place. Good communication and respectfull.
Finn und seine Begleiterin waren uns sehr liebe Gäste- freundlich, aufgeschlossen und nett.
Es war alles sauber und ordentlich und er kann jederzeit wiederkommen.
It was a pleasure to receive Finn at Home. He is a lovely person. We hope we can visit one day is farm in Ireland!
