With my family I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Jean-Claude Charpenets appartement. After perfect communication prior to and during the stay we felt at ease with both hosts and location. A splendid and cosy household with everything you could ask for made us feel welcome and at home. Thank you Jean-Claude and Cecile for bringing up the courage to host guests in your beautiful home. We are more than happy if we could come back some time. Your hints on where to go and what to see were great.
Les Charpenets apartment on Montmartre is just like you hope a classic parisian apartment would be: quirky, authentic, charming and smack in the middle of the convivial hustle and bustle of Montmartre. It is super central, yet in a secluded tranquil yard.
Bedroom 1 and kitchen
Nice doublebed. Very comfortable according to my parents who slept there.
Kitchen is small, but well equipped
Separate toilet and bathroom/sink/shower. No shower stand.
Bedroom 2 (the living room)
Terrible wrought iron sleeping couch that should be thrown out. 10 cm thick mattress that when you lay down on it, it subsides into a 1 cm cover over the metal barred bottom of the bed. You wake up with prison stripes on your aching body.
The bed-linens were provided but we had to make the beds ourselves. Not a big deal, and I wouldn't even bother to mention it if it were not for the other shortcomings of the apartment and the host. But it is anyway a small annoyance to have to make your bed when you pay around 110 euros pr night.
No hot water on arrival
On arrival at 18.00 there was no hot water in the apartment. In a notebook with apartment information I read that the water tank was small and heated over night so we should use the shower conservatively. No problem. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was no hot water to conserve.
Very disappointing after 7 hours travel, not to be able to shower before dinner. I addressed this disappointment with Jean-Claude pr mail but the host didn't feel that this was a fault at all and offered no apologies. Only placed a vague blame on the cleaning-staff for using a lot of hot water and ended his responses with the classic and charming "I would like to underline that this is not a hotel". Very nice. Apparently he feels that guests expecting to take a hot water shower upon arrival are having to high expectations. I fundamentally disagree and would be sorry and embarassed if this happened to guests in my apartment.
The following day the water had heated up and we had no problem taking 2 showers each pr day. The cleaning personnel must really have gone bananas with the hot water before our arrival:)
TO SUM UP
1. If you are a "glass is half full"-type, want a nice apartment in a very nice area and are comfortable risking making your own bed and taking an ice cold shower before going out, this is definitely the apartment for you.
2. If you want a nice apartment in a very nice area where you come to a readymade bed, and a host that feels providing guests with a hot shower is part of the basics of hospitality; you should pick another apartment.
Stayed at Jean-Claude's flat while running the Paris Marathon. It's much bigger than I imagined it to be from the pictures, and it had lots of windows and natural light coming in. We loved all of the art work and little objects they used to decorate the different rooms with. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches that were provided to us, such as ample towels, lotions, maps, dinner recommendations, etc... Jean-Claude was very flexible with our check-in/out time, which we really appreciated too. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.
We enjoyed a very nice stay in the appartment of the Charpenet family. It is situated in a very typical and elegant part of lovely Paris.
Really lovely flat and nice hosts easy to communicate with. Lovely neighbourhood perfect if you really want to feel like you are 'In Paris' Would stay again!
It's the second time we visit this very charming apartment and hopefully not the last. We love the location, the neighbourhood, the easy acces of Thalys.
We had a good time staying in this flat in Paris for the weekend despite the rain all over two days. Flat is really nice and clean, and is perfectly located. Hospitable and helpful landlords. Interesting books in case you decide staying inside instead of wondering around beautiful city:)
Location of the apartment is wonderful. Very special area. And the ownwers are so friendly. Only the bad thing in this apartment; toilett is so small and kitchen needs a bit organization:-)
Have a good holiday...

I used to share my flat with Jean-Claude during more than one year in Australia. JC was a great flatmate and became one of my closest friend. JC apartment in Paris is lovely : a true peaceful & neat flat. Be sure to ask him some few tips to enjoy your trip in Paris... He is now a true Parisian !
Yet not Paris born and raised, Cécile and Jean-Claude carry the authentic parisian spirit : welcoming, art and party goers, bon vivants as well as very well educated young couple. These two will please you every way they can starting with their tastefull, cosy, fully equiped and very well located romantic spot in Montmartre.
