The apartment itself is beautiful - mostly because it contains lots of Leor's original art work. The furniture is chic - all Danish modern or, at least, in a similar style.
Ample closet space. Huge bedroom. Laundry in the basement with enough machines that you never need to wait.
The location is hard to beat, being right on top of the ABCD station. It is right on Jackie Robinson park, with wonderful views and beautiful sunrises.
The very friendly building staff and tenants made Leor's apartment a wonderful place to stay.
Though I never met Leor as he was out of the country, he was a very responsive host my email. I coordinated with his brother in order to receive keys and regarding other things with the apartment.
I stayed at Leor's place for three months, between June and August of 2014, while studying at Columbia. Leor was, throughout that time, on an arts fellowship in Israel, which makes his exceptional responsiveness as a host all the more remarkable. He was always reachable via email and his brother, Ronen, was half an hour away should I have needed anything. The place itself was a convenient, homely, and stylish home base for a stay in New York City.
Its location really is immediately atop and A, B, C, and D trains and only a ten-minute walk from the 1, which ensures that no destination is ever more than one transfer away. The amenities--kitchen, dining room, living area, bedroom--are all comfortable and stylish (and decorated with Leor's art); you almost forget that you are living in a studio. Two things to note: while air conditioning is listed as an amenity, it is provided by a portable unit that cools the bedroom but not the primary living area. This was never an issue for me, as the apartment remains cool even in the hottest part of the summer, but some might take issue. In addition, the refrigerator is a mini-fridge unit with very little freezer space. This was also not an issue for me, as I, like many in New York, ate out much more often than I cooked for myself, but if this is not the case for you then you should plan accordingly.
Leor's neighborhood is as quiet as promised, which can be either a boon or a detriment to your experience. If you seek a home base, then you're in luck--the area around Leor is as quiet as any in New York and home to a respectable suite of delivery options. It does not, however, host any arts or nightlife worth mentioning, so you will need to take the aforementioned convenient train ride if you wish to engage with the city. If you have any preconceived notions of Harlem as a dangerous place, however, know that it is now a residential area no more dangerous than the Upper East Side. I, a young male, felt safe traversing the few blacks around the building at any time of day or night.
In closing, staying at Leor's place made me feel at home--no mean feat when you're living in New York City. The host, a talented artist, is responsive; the apartment is safe and stylish; the neighborhood is convenient. Highly recommended for a stay of any length.
Leor was an amazing host. Very helpful, easy going and reliable. I would definitely be recommending Leor's place as an affordable option when staying in NYC. His apartment is conveniently located a few steps from a subway that runs many lines to downtown manhattan!
You just need to get inside the house to feel at home.
Leor is the best host you can image to meet in NY.
Recommended to everyone!
A nice and clean apartment with all the necessary things you might need. The building is right in front of the subway station, a big plus specially in winter!
Leor is very friendly! We had a very nice two week stay in his place! :)
leor was an amazing, amenable, flexible and responsible host. the apartment was clean and just as photographed. the location was incredible, there is a ton of great stuff within walking distance in his neighborhood, and the access to public transportation could not have been easier. i highly recommend staying at leor's place.
