Here's the core facts about me:
I've working with computers since nearly failing a FORTRAN class in college. I've gotten over that trauma, however, and I'm currently technical director for Fort Collins-based Windows IT Pro Magazine, the leading independent publication for information technology professionals. Before that, I was a senior systems engineer with Intel, where I was one of the architects of the company's overall Windows infrastructure.
In an effort to keep some balance in my life, I began practicing Okinawan karate in college and have kept at it ever since. I teach at a school in Dallas that I co-founded in 1984. I hold multiple black belts, including a sixth degree in Shorin ryu. I attribute my success in this area to a Woody Allen saying: "90% of success in life is just showing up." I'm also a distance runner, road cyclist, and practice yoga.
I also have a lifelong love of music, especially jazz and classical . Though I've taken a temporary leave of absence (for 30 years) from playing French horn, I married a professional clarinetist to ensure I'll always be near the sound of rabid practicing. I've been a member of The Dallas Opera as a supernumerary since 1984, and I'm proud of the fact that I've been their main dragon since I began.
