This was a fantastic experience. The apartment was as expected- well-equipped, and beautifully decorated. The shower is glorious! Without A/C it did get a bit hot in the afternoons, but with screened windows and a great fan it cools down adequately, and this was a particularly hot week. We used the bikes to go everywhere- ruins, beach, cenotes, town. Carlos was especially helpful, meeting us on arrival at his restaurant which is just to the right as you exit the bus station, orienting us to Tulum, and taking us and our bags back to the bus station on our last day.
I had a wonderful stay at Carlos's apartment! The place has everything one needs and is absolutely lovely. Being able to stay in the pueblo was definitely an enriching experience. Plus, biking around town was very convenient. Carlos is an amazing host whose generosity was highly appreciated!
Staying at Carlos's place was a dream. Everything was easy and as described. Carlos took the time to show us a map and give reccommendations for the things we wanted to do (Acuatic divers were the beat!). We zoomed around town on his 2 bikes, exploring everything with freedom from the taxistas.
The apt. is a beatiful, artistic space with everything we needed from water to fridge to stove. Its located 3 blocks off the main street so very quiet and is as it looks in pictures. It was perfect for 2 people.
Carlos is generous and helpful and even took us and all our gear to the dive shop on our laat morning, to save us the hassle.
Gracias por todo Carlos!
Carlos was a great host! He met us at his restaurant (right next to the bus station!) and sat while we had a drink. He offered insight on the town and made us feel very welcome. He even brought us to the apartment, and back, and even gave a tour of the downtown area. Was a perfect first welcome to Tulum!!!
The apartment is clean, modern, and has a great bohemian charm with Carlos' (Charlie's) own home renovations and cool tiled bathroom.
There are two dogs Babu and Pinta which despite barking are super friendly but kept behind a fence separate from the apartment but present enough for added security. There are even two bikes provided for your stay which we used all day everyday.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. Charlie's is perfect if you're looking to live among the locals and still feel tucked away and private.
Only advice- bring ear plugs or you'll wake with the rooster calls :)
Carlos was a nice host and the place is well decorated and cozy. There are occasional cockroaches but this is Mexico after all. There are also some very active sugar ants which will find exposed food. Good inventive to cleanup well after cooking. Other than that everything was great.
We had a fantastic experience with Carlos and his studio apartment. The space perfectly met the needs of my wife and myself. The kitchen allowed us to cook our breakfasts and often our lunches, so we could do what we like to do: have one meal out on the town and the rest "at home" in the apartment. The fact that Carlos is a well-known local artist means the decor is amazing. Everywhere you look you see beauty, from the creative choice of bright wall colours to the justly famous bottle wall in the bathroom. Carlos was very responsive whenever we needed something, for example when the bottled water ran out, a new bottle was provided right away. Also, on our last morning, Carlos insisted on picking us up (with our luggage) and driving us to the Tulum bus station. What an interesting place! And what an interesting man! Carlos has been in Tulum since the mid 1970s. He's seen all the changes and answered all our questions about where to go and what to do. We'd definitely come back to this lovely spot. Thanks, Carlos.
We had a great time staying for a week in this apartment. Everything is new, and works well. It is a long rectangular studio room, quite big, and painted in pretty colors. The bathroom is amazing, one solid wall is made of glass bottles in mortar and is glowing modern art. The shower head is a BIG conch shell, and it's a beautiful experience to stand under it with plenty of hot water flowing down.
The kitchen is equipped with ceramic dishes and glass glasses. there is hot water in the kitchen and bath. The place is really clean and the bed is firm and comfortable.
Charlie is a good attentive host, easy to reach if you need something. The apartment is attached to his house, and borders the jungle on the edge of town, so you have green trees to look at, outside the window. The edge of the jungle is a bit scrappy, trash collects, but nothing unusual for a dusty Mexican town. The only drawback we found was it was noisy at night, mostly because of dogs barking. We travel with ear plugs, because every puebla we've ever stayed in in noisy, so it is not unexpected.
Two bikes were provided, and it was a wonderful way to get around town and to the beautiful beach, which is about one and a half miles away. The town is poor and dirty, but has soul, and grows on you the longer you stay. It seemed very safe to us, and people are friendly.
We ate at Charlies restaurant and thought the food was delicious and the staff were charming and warm.
We are looking forward to staying longer next year.
Carlos is a true gentleman of Tulum. He arranged to meet us and arrived on time and offered us some very useful tips about the local area. The room itself was as described and had everything we needed. The apartment was also very safe and secure. My wife and I were very glad we stayed here.
Charley y yo nos conocimos en Tulum, El es una persona optimista, muy artística y emprendedora que seguro le hará sentir como en su casa, tiene un restaurante que se llama Charleys con espectáculos dónde la comida es deliciosa y el ambiente más!
