We had the opportunity to stay at Nermin's house in early September for a night--my husband, my mother, and I were travelling from Sarajevo to the Makarska Riviera, stopping in Mostar to visit my relatives, and I couldn't impose 3 guests on them.
The house is a large, multilevel home next to the Neretva and a five-minute walk to the Stari Most. The kitchen/communal living space is large and the home itself is tastefully decorated, obviously remodeled, and has fully-functioning AC (important!). The bed my mother and I slept in downstairs was incredibly comfortable--but the real comfort came from the sound of the Neretva and crickets.
In the morning we enjoyed Bosanski Kafa with Nermin and his triathlete friend Erol, on a patio underneath a grape arbor that produced quite possibly the sweetest white grapes we had within a three-week time period. They came into town for a long bike ride but we're nice enough to walk with us to the Stari Most and play tour guide to my mother who was experiencing the deep Balkans for the very first time. (Thanks again, guys!)
If you're a cyclist, triathlete, interested in learning more about Bosnia-Herzegovina from someone who's spent a couple of decades with NGOs, or a combination of all, I highly recommend booking this home.
It's a very spacious and quiet house in a perfect location for exploring Mostar and the region. Nermin was always available on email and the neighbour was also around to assist.
The listing does mention the sleeping arrangements, just at the bottom. But a real bed in one of the spaces, along with some wider bed linen, would make things a lot more comfortable. At the moment there are sofa beds upstairs and downstairs plus a large mattress upstairs; in the summer the upstairs is probably very hot for sleeping while downstairs the sofa bed is a bit narrow and too short for tall people.
We stayed at Nermins for two nights, and wish we had prolonged the stay. Not only is mostar and the area around mostar beautiful, but Nermins place is roomy and perfectly situated. Nermin was most helpful, and gave us good advice for our further travels. Highly recommended!
Great house, in very central location. House has its own patio. Wifi good.
Communication with Nermin excellent.
Nermin's place is a good apartment to explore the city. While the bustling city is 'right around the corner', the apartment is situated on a quiet street.
The kitchen and bedroom are comfortably cool in summer, but can be heated in wintertime.
The upper floor is a large room with a big sofa, you can sleep on it or hangout in front of the tv.
Nermin has provided us with lost of info about al the highlights of Mostar and surroundings.
Nermin, his wife and daughter are a nice family and have been very kind guests. The communication was good and they kept the apartment in perfect shape.
Every host can be happy to welcome them as their guests.
