This is a special place. I loved staying at Lauren's for 6 weeks from mid April through May. The apartment feels spacious and airy with the high ceilings and the main room is large. I loved the eclectic art and artefacts that decorate the apartment. The roof terrace is huge, not overlooked and a fantastic bonus - I used it every day.
On a practical note, the bed is very comfortable and the street noise is not too bad for NY - although you can hear trucks on Columbus at night. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The stairs were an easy climb. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and I could easily cook simple meals. The apartment is in a great location, I enjoyed exploring the neighborhood and being so close to the park. Lauren checked in occasionally and responded very promptly when I contacted her.
I spent almost two months at Lauren's place and found it just perfect! As soon as I arrived to the apartment, I felt "at home". The apartment has everything a single traveler or a couple might need if spending a month or more in NYC. It is furnished and decorated with good taste and well equipped. It has the warmth and personality of a true "home". The kitchen is small but perfectly functional and equipped and I used it almost daily. The bathroom is small but functional, even though the sink is a bit small. The main room is full of light and has a very comfortable bed and sofas. But the real plus of the apartment is the huge rooftop terrace! I stayed in the apartment between February and April, during one of the coldest winter according to Newyorkers, but still I spent some time there every day and on sunny weekends I even had lunch on the terrace (there is a table and some chairs). The location is one of the best you can find in NY, just wonderful! In front of the American Museum of Natural History, a few minutes walk from Central Park and from the two main subway lines of the Upper West Side connecting the place to anywhere in Midtown and Downtown (and further uptown) with both express and local trains. It is also surrounded by excellent restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Finally, Lauren has been an extremely helpful host. Despite not having met her, she has been regularly in contact with me to make sure everything was working well. She provided very clear, comprehensive and detailed house instructions that covered all possible features and issues and made the settling in very easy. Check in and check out where easy and smooth.
To conclude, my stay at Lauren's apartment has been an excellent experience and I would surely stay there again for sure and will recommend the place to friends and family. Everything about the place is as described or even better: for example, the view from the terrace in much nicer than what you get from the pictures!
This was an absolutely incredible place to stay. The apartment is very roomy and airy with lots of light, and just feels great to be in. Well decorated and relaxing. Wish I could have enjoyed the rooftop more, but in the dead of winter that wasn't happening.
Lauren was a great host, and continually checked in to make sure that my stay was enjoyable and I that I had everything I needed. I really appreciate that.
Definitely a great place to stay, very close to all kinds of restaurants and bars.
Writing this on behalf of my husband, as this time is was my (Sam’s wife’s) parents who used airbnb.com services while visiting NYC from Finland for two months (Nov ’14 – Jan ’15).
My parents loved the apartment! (I started to call it a ‘bird’s nest’ :-> ). It was as expected and more. Very clean, cozy, and it had all the amenities one needs. The brick wall and the personal touches in the interior décor brought additional character.
The location is naturally great. High-quality grocery stores are right next door, as well as Central Park, a great flea market and farmers market, subway, restaurants (they became regulars at the Shake Shack ;-> and learned to go at the rare times when there is NO line), etc. The neighborhood is very amicable and totally different from the busy midtown filled with tourists.
Both of my parents are in good shape, in their mid-60s & early 70s. They enjoyed the fact that it was a walk-up as the apartment being on the top floor guaranteed them some additional daily exercise ;->
Despite them visiting during a colder season, they also were able to enjoy the rooftop a few times and liked that very much.
The only thing that they thought of bringing up is that if you’re a light sleeper, you might be bothered by the traffic noises, despite the apartment being on the 5th floor. (Fortunately, my parents don’t belong to that category and they slept very well in the very comfortable bed.)
The host, Lauren, could not have been a better, nicer and more attentive host! The instructions that she left prior arrival were very clear and we all felt very comfortable as we knew if issues came up we could contact her without any hesitation.
All of us highly recommend this apartment to anyone that is visiting NYC. You won’t regret!!!
And P.S. Lauren – thank you! You rock!!!
Just left the apartment after staying there for five weeks while I worked on a show. Loved the whole thing - the area, the apartment, the roof terrace, Lauren's careful hosting, the park nearby, Fairway supermarket for food, Isabella's for brunch. All amazing and I miss it already. Can't recommend highly enough. For two people for five weeks it was plenty of space and wonderful experience. If you have a chance - book it.
I couldn't have picked a better slice of Manhattan in Lauren's apt. From the minute I heaved 2 suitcases up those stairs in the front door I knew this place was the best choice. The roof terrace is just amazing. You will never tire of the view, it's spectacular.
The neighbourhood is fab, you have everything you need at a short walk including fitness classes, grocery stores, restaurants, take outs and the subway are all within minutes. If I could buy this place, I would!
If you think the walk up with no elevator is an issue - within days I could fly up those stairs easy - call it free fitness!
Stop look. Don't hit that back button. Don't waste dozens of hours looking at sub-par sublets. Book this one now. It is, quite frankly, too good to be true.
The pictures can't even do this place justice. The roof deck? As good as I've seen on here (let alone at this price point).
Lauren was response and friendly. Her place feels like Home. I spent a month here with my wife Oct/Nov and we will miss it fondly.
Convenient to all the trains. A block from the park.
I suppose not everything is perfect: the 5th floor steps can be tiresome, but just think of all the extra desserts this buys you. And a microwave would've come in handy now and then (I think a mini one might to fit on the bottom shelf of that steel table, psst)
The building feels safe and secure. Shake Shack with no lines (you're so close you can pick strategic times to visit).
Now, please, stop reading this and go click book and go say hell to NYC for me.
We stayed at Lauren's for a month in September. The location is terrific and everything you want if you're in love with real NYC. This studio is spacious and there's plenty of space for anything you want.
The roof is epic.
There is a small kitchen but you probably won't find it very helpful, you don't feel like cooking in this apartment (or in NY as they say), just order some takeaway.
If you're a first-time visitor to the city and have only seen it on TV, stay here, you won't regret it.
Lauren’s apartment could not have been in a better location. The apartment is exactly as you see it in the photos and quite adorable. We loved being so close to all the subways, so many great restaurants and across the street from the Museum, not to mention having Shake Shack at your door step. Our stay was for 35 days, so we could have used a bigger kitchen to cook more, but while in New York…eat out!!! Be prepared for the 5 flights of stairs; sometimes a little hard after a full day out. The private accessible rooftop was great too. Lauren made it very easy to pick-up and drop off the key upon check-in and check-out and she was quick to respond to any questions or concerns. All-in-all we always felt very safe and we were thankful to have such a great home to call our home.
We had an amazing stay at this apartment! It's a wonderful apartment to stay in and a great base for living in and exploring NYC.
The apartment itself is exactly as described, very spacious and magical with a great vibe. It's very well organized and has great and comfortable "living" and "sleeping" areas. The roof is a very cool feature as well. The views from the apartment and the roof are fantastic, you see the whole city in front of you and it's beautiful day or night.
The location of the apartment is probably in the nicest part of the Upper West Side. It's a 2 minute walk to Central Park, where we spent a lot of our weekends. It is surrounded by a ton of really good restaurants, we did not get the chance to explore even 20% of them during the month we stayed here because there are so many. There are nearby subway stops for the 1,2,3,B,C lines so it's very easy to get anywhere else in Manhattan very quickly.
Last but not least, Lauren was the PERFECT host. She was always super prompt to respond and happily helped us with any question or request that we had, and really went out of her way to make sure we had the best possible stay. I can't imagine any way she could have been more helpful.
So an amazing place to stay in an amazing area of Manhattan! Highly recommended..!
