I'm a Chicana originally from San Francisco, California (Lowell High School Class of '95). After living in the Bay Area for 25 years, I spent time in Toronto, Havana (having attempted medical school at the Latin American School of Medicine), and am now completing my doctorate at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Both San Francisco and Montreal are hands-down my two favorite cities. My dad and many friends still live in the city so I like to visit every 3-4 years (or more when I can afford it).
My Life Motto: I am passionate about life and want to live and love intensely. Nothing frightens me more than apathy, rigidity and complacency. I love to laugh and make others laugh.
The six things I can't live without are:
1) a loving and caring family and diverse group of friends
2) an amazing circle of activists who share my passion for social and economic justice
3) avocados, coconuts, hot chili peppers, corn tortillas, limes, and cilantro
4) love-making, tear-jerking, and soul-stirring music like jazz, the blues, soul, R & B, and hip-hop
5) Black and Chicano/Latino cultures of the Americas (including the languages, food, politics, music, moves, films and art)
6) living in a dynamic, culturally and racially diverse city environment
