I was very afraid of Lamar. He was not very nice over email. He accused me of many things that I didn't do. I asked if there was a key pick up or a key pad because my flight didn't get in until 11:30 PM - he told me the latest possible check in was 10 pm. I offered solutions to have him leave the key because he told me he was in bed and would not be getting up to meet me to give me the key. I contacted AIRBNB for resolution and because I was afraid I would have no place to stay on my first night in. They reminded Lamar that per AIRBNB's host rules he had to make himself available for 24 hours on check in day. I also had to clean the apartment before using it. The shower had some mold that I cleaned. He accused me of making a fake video to get my money back. The front door handle, that was the only way to lock the door to the apartment was broken. It came off the door and was missing screws. We used a chair in front of the door and prayed no one would try and break in while we were sleeping. I didn't demand anything. the stove had a malfunction, so I emailed Lamar to let him know- no response. There was a light out in the kitchen - I emailed Lamar to let him know - no response. I let Lamar know that the front door knob, the only lock in the apartment was broken - no response. I have hosted many times and I make myself 100% available to my guests. Any time, any way. I communicate often, I am kind, and I try to make sure they have a wonderful time in a place I enjoy. Lamar didn't do any of that for us. We felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable and prayed that we had the only key to the place. I voiced my concerns to airbnb and i said that if he were unable to meet me with the key after 10;00 PM, that I would be happy to cancel the first night and check in during his 4-10 PM window. That is when he became angry at me and accused me of demanding more money from him. I didn't know what else to do. There was a half marathon that weekend and I knew there was no place else to stay. This whole mess of begging for the key and placating my scary host started the Sunday before my Thursday (late) check in. My original review of Lamar's place was of Lamar's place, and not of him and his unwelcoming ways. He decided to say mean things about me, so I will have to be completely honest in my review of him. He is a scary man that I wish never to be a guest of again. I hope he changes his attitude toward the people paying a lot of money to stay in his flat, I hope he cleans his flat, and I hope he fixes the broken door know ASAP, as it is the only door with a lock. I did take videos to show AIRBNB that I wasn't crazy and that what I arrived at was unacceptable.
