Rania has been an excellent host, explaining everything I needed to know, and ready to give gone assistance for any kind of trouble - by the way she speaks an excellent English, not so common in Alexandria. The flat is big, quiet, well equipped.
The price/quality relation is very good.
Rania is a very professional and helpfull host.
The appartment is as displayed on the pictures,
nicely cleaned and situated in a nice quiet area.
Main necessary goods can be found nearby in the neighbourhood
It is surely recommended. I had a car, so I cannot say anything in relation to the accessibility of the public transport/taxis in order to go down town and so on.
The apartment is just as pictured. While it is a ways outside of the city center, it is easy to get into downtown Alexandria. There are also some shops near the apartment, so you can easily go grocery shopping and such in the neighborhood. While the apartment itself is good, Rania is who made my experience so great. Rania was an extremely helpful host. When I arrived, she helped me buy a cell phone, phone plan, and USB internet, and she explained where to get things in the neighborhood. She was available via email or phone if I had any questions. She also was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to help me in meeting up and later going to the airport to leave. If you don't mind being a bit away from the city, this is a great place to stay.
Rania was the perfect hostess. She was very professional in her approach. She arranged a driver to meet me at the airport, the cost of which she deducted from the bond for the flat at the end. We met early in the morning to sort out the formalities and she produced a professional contract and receipt for all monies. She had even thought to make me an Egyptian sandwich (called foulle) for breakfast, which was very tasty. She showed me round the apartment and then left for work. At the end of my visit she signed everything off and returned the deposit less the cost of the car from the airport. She was well pleased that I had cleaned the apartment fom top to bottom so that I was sure that I had not left anything behind. She was kind enough to give me a lift back to my friends in Gleem who were going with me to the airport the following morning and with whom it was more convenient to stay overnight.
The apartment was as seen in the pictures but the paint on the door surrounds and skirting boards was a bit shabby, which detracted from the fact that the flat was clean and tidy. Also the person who had laid the floor tiles had not cleaned off the grouting cement which made the bathroom floor look dirty, which it wasn't .Otherwise the flat was comfortable and in a pleasantly quiet.area close to the Engineering Academia (university)
The only problem was that it was further out than I thought. I thought it was near the Gleem Acadamei of Art .Getting to and fro in the day time was no trouble but the evening traffic is chaotic since the revolution and so I had to stay over with friends if I went out for the evening. This was no problem for me as I have many friends in Egypt but for someone just on holiday it could restrict evening outings. I did not use the micro buses as they too have become overcrowded since the revolution. The taxi drivers do try to overcharge but they will come down to 20 LE especially if you start the negotiation at 10 LE instead of the 60 they would like. A smattering of arabic helps.
All in all a pleasant experience
The flat is exactly as you see in the photos and we were happy with how the realty matched with what Rania presents online.
Unfortunately, we did not realise how far away from downtown the place is located (although we read it was 30mins travel time, we didnt realise the distance). This was a bit too far out of town for us, but for others this may not be a problem.
The kitchen was a bit simpler than we were hoping for, and the shops we tried nearby dont sell food for cooking. The main reason for our stay was to cook and do washing and we were up until 10pm just trying to get 1 load of washing done, as the washing machine was a bit slow.
Rania asked for a copy of our passport when we met her, which she hadnt mentioned prior to that, so I didnt have a copy ready. This wasnt a problem, as she was happy for me to email it to her, but it would have been nice to know about the request when we were in touch earlier. She also required a $50US bond that was never mentioned before-hand, so it was lucky we had it on us at the time.
Also, be aware that the check-in/check-out is at 5.30pm, which may not be too convenient for some.
So, overall it was fine for us - just not really suited to our needs. I'm sure that others would be quite happy to stay here.
Felt homely , secured with security in the colony. Good for a family of 4-5.
Rooms are clean and tidy.
Rania picked me and my small film crew up in San Stefano neighborhood of Alex and drove us to the apartment. She was very gracious to show us around the apartment and the neighborhood to help us find groceries and internet cafes within a few hundred yards. She was also very thorough and provided me with a contract for the stay which I welcomed. Rania's professionalism and candor make her a very reliable host. The apartment was clean and livable and the pictures were an accurate reflection of the apartment. The only downside was that it was a bit on the edge of town and took some time to get into the heart of Alex. We became very comfortable navigating the distance with taxis and microbuses however. Thanks, Rania!
