Matteo is a pianist and composer, Chiara is a visual artist. During summer we stay in our big house, where Matteo studies and practice piano. The B&B is thought as a meeting point and artistic exchange, for musicians and not, coming to Ravenna.

We went to Ravenna for the mosaics and had the additional wonderful surprise of finding a delightful host couple, Chiara and Matteo. They offered a wonderful stay in a 15th century palazzo that has been in the family since 1861. Although the Palazzo is historical, the bedroom and bathroom are as modern as the 21st century. Fresh hot coffee, fruit, baked goods were offered at breakfast and then Matteo, a composer and pianist, treated us to a piano piece on the grand in the ballroom. It is what makes Italy continously surprising!! We hope to see them next year.
I've done a fair bit of travelling but this must be the most amazing place I have ever stayed. I couldn't believe the place from the pictures and the description and went with the fear of being disappointed, but if anything it was even better than I imagined. You enter through the columned marble entrance way and go up the stairs to a corridor lines with old-fashioned chaise-lounges and a long line of windows looking out onto the leaves of the trees in the garden. Our room had an amazing painted fresco that was just restored last year to stare up at and a modern ensuite bathroom (this is in a separate room - I was concerned from the photos it might just be separated from the bedroom by a curtain but this isn't the case). The next room has a grand piano and another fresco, and we were served a continental breakfast each morning in the dining room next to that. The wifi didn't stretch to our room but I felt perfectly at home tapping away on my phone at the dining table. We couldn't believe how wonderful it all was, and at such reasonable prices.
Matteo and Chiara were such charming and welcoming hosts. They didn't intrude but were fascinating people to chat to, and were very helpful (printing our train tickets for us for example). We left after three days feeling we'd developed a genuine friendship and hope they will visit us in London this winter.
The location is right in the centre so is perfect, and still an easy walk from the train station. It was lovely to just be able to relax in the house having had a fairly busy trip up till then, although Ravenna itself is great too.
If you come to Ravenna and don't stay with Matteo and Chiara you will be doing yourself a massive disservice.
Matteo And Chiara
I really liked my stay with Matteo and Chiara.
They have a very nice place where you feel very welcome!
We stayed in this palatial B&B for the last leg of our honeymoon. We were amazed to walk into the nicest part of the lovely town of Ravenna, and find our accommodations smack in the middle of it all. The place is a palace, with towering walls, frescoed ceilings, and a lovely private courtyard. Breakfast was delicious, and Matteo and Chiara were interesting and charming hosts. They helped us with restaurant recommendations, helpful tips, and even learning some Italian.
We were amazed at how palatial yet cozy this B&B was, and it was the perfect place to stay for the last part of our trip. Great place for venturing off to explore Emiglia-Romagna.
The Bed and Breakfast Marmarica is a wonderful place to stay in Ravenna
The hosts - Matteo and Chiara - are very nice, generous and educated artistic couple
The house is a real Historical Palace - beautifully furnished and with spacious common areas - dining room, patio etc.
So called "single" room also very large and furnished with antiques (however, I should note for future guests, I believe that the en-suite rooms are better)
Matteo and Chiara were great hosts, sharing their extraordinary palace home with us. The palace is in a wonderful position close to San Vitalle. Staying in such a historic building was a very special experience.
Practical help like being able to use the washing machine was really appreciated.
The palazzo is gorgeous and only up 1 flight of stairs. The bed was extremely comfy and the bedroom and adjoining shower and bath room were huge- like a large apartment. It is so central and right next door to the Venetian Pastry where Matteo and Chiara get the most delicious croissants for breakfast! They told us about a great hundred of years old restaurant, Ca de Ven, that was so good we went twice! Tourists also get free bike rentals right across the street from their place! Beautiful experience worth repeating.
I only met Matteo and Chiara briefly (I was running out the door to catch a plane) but they were extremely nice and I wish I had been able to spend more time with them and go to their performance! They were willing to arrive at my apartment early in the morning so that we could meet in person before I left, watered my plants while I was away, and kept me informed of their plans via text message. I found my apartment in the exact same state that I had left it. I hope our paths cross again!
Chiara stayed here just one night with her friend (not Matteo). Unfortunately I had only little time in the morning, so we couln't talk a lot. Her english is good an we had a short but good time. She is a student of arts and I was able to show her the things I do. All together it was nice to have her here.
I have known the family for 40 years, when I first came to Italy from the U.S. to do my Ph.D. dissertation research in Ravenna. I was a guest in this former palazzo in the historic center of Ravenna and returned in 2010 and 2012. I met Matteo's other brothers in the water at the beach when I heard them speaking Southern California English. They learned English from their father and their mother was a pure Italian goddess. My best experience here was listening to Matteo play Chopin on his grand piano. I recommend Matteo because his personality is as warm, kind, and funny as his mothers' was.
