I run a real estate enterprise specializing in vacation rentals and development. .
I love the active lifestyle...running, swimming, surfing yet very much enjoy reading and playing the guitar!
First off, I couldn't get my internet on my phone to work, so I got lost and came in late (printing maps is always a good idea). Steven was very nice and didn't complain about the late hour. The room was simple but comfortable and I had a beautiful view in the morning. Someone else mentioned the noise of the frogs - I liked them! A good sound to fall asleep to.
There was no cell phone reception on my phone in the area (FYI).
I was off early, so that's all I have to write about my experience.
Good location (assuming your mobile), easy in and out, very laid back and relaxed. Clean and tidy and except the frogs (which can't be avoided anyway) very secluded and quite - Great stay!
It's a really fency home! So beautiful view. I can smell some flavors of woods in the house. There is a classic Kramer guitar, metalheads should check this out:) Steven is really kind, also recommend some routes and spots for us. Really helpful!!
Tremendous value - a real bargain. I had a fabulous time staying at the Pineapple House. Steven is a wonderful host, too, who knows everything there is to know about the Big Island. He recommended a phenomenal restaurant that was just a few minutes away, knew all the best places to go for fresh (and incredible) fruits and vegetables, and pointed out some amazing places to surf, snorkel, swim, and hike. (The five days I had on the Big Island weren't anywhere NEAR enough).
The rooms themselves are comfortable, and the house is set in the midst of a beautiful rain forest environment (you can listen to the frogs while you sleep - they're actually nice and not obnoxious, and this is coming from an insomniac and a light sleeper).
I just can't get away from the value that this represented - I felt like I was stealing from my poor host every time I came back from having a terrific day around the Island and he offered me some fruit or a smoothie. Whether you're looking for a place to heal, recharge, or just somewhere to crash after a strenuous hike or some gnarly surfing, I don't think you're likely to beat this anywhere.
Steven and Diana are wonderful hosts. Their place was clean, they were very friendly and made me feel welcomed in their home. Since the closest restaurant was a ten minute drive, it was very nice being able to store food in the full size refrigerator, and enjoy fresh fruits, smoothies, and coffee at the house in the morning! Steven is very knowledgeable about the area, and his suggestions were very helpful!
Pineapple House is a fantastic place. Everything works as it should, beds are comfortable, there is Wifi, shower is nice and warm, and carpets are very lush! It's situated far from everything, and a car is definitely needed to get there. This is part of the charm of this place: jungle noises and no light pollution whatsoever. Also, Steven, the host, is a really nice and helpful guy. A great experience!
Da Surf Shak has a very outdoorsy feel to it so I'm glad we're used to camping. Just remember that it has an outdoor compost toilet and no electricity. We definitely enjoyed the jungle atmosphere and privacy. Steven was a very cool, nice host to talk to.
The Surf Shack is great value for your money (you get two bunk beds and a bed "upstairs" where a couple can sleep).
The fresh fruit were delicious
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. When I stopped for a shower or to recharge an electronic device at the pineapple house I always enjoyed a chat with them and their fresh smoothies were delightful.
Just remember that the Surf Shack is a very nice cabin with great beds (no sleeping bags required) but with no electricity, water etc.and you will have a great time.
You will have jungle sounds all night which is in my opinion much better than the sound of traffic which is completely absent in this area.
We stayed for two nights at Pineapple house. The room and bathroom are very clean. And we like the decorations inside the house. Steven and Diane are very interesting people. They and their friend gave us many useful travel guides. We would like to stay at the place again if we have a chance to visit the area in the future. Thank you!
We had a very good time at Steven's and Diana's Place we enjoyed it a lot. Steven and Diana recomended us a lot of useful places to explore and insiders as well. Thank you guys again for having us :)
Steve was a great and friendly guest. He was in for work but still managed to take good care if the unit with his busy schedule.
