Gabriela is an incredible host. She will make your stay unforgettable. Location is the best of town. Everything is walking distance. Highly recommendable :)
The reservation was canceled 21 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
From my sister who stayed with Gabriela:
Gabriela's Casa Yucatan was absolutely perfect. The apartment was beautiful. All the rooms surround a sweet courtyard, there is also a nice living room with books and local magazines and a fully stocked kitchen. Gabriela had left cereal, fruit, yogurt, bread and juice as well as coffee and tea... everything you need to make a nice breakfast. My room was extra comfortable, super soft sheets and pillows and the bathroom was HUGE! incredibly beautiful, fun for spa treatments.
Casa Yucatan is located in a beautiful neighborhood, a really fun area to explore. Lots of excellent food, bars, tacos, etc. I spent a lot of time at Parque Mexico, taking pictures. They also project movies in the park on certain nights, which was great for people watching.
Gabriela is the BEST! She was incredibly kind and organized, had maps, phone numbers and directions all ready for me... she even let me borrow her extra local cell phone. When my boyfriend came, he was able to stay with me with last minute notice and she was unbelievable flexible when we needed to stay a few extra nights. She was always just a phone call away if we needed anything at all. A truly beautiful person, we enjoyed so much getting to know her.
I am looking forward to moving to Mexico City in August and I know where my all my friends and family will stay when they come to visit! Highly recommend, It was an excellent experience. Gabriela, muchisimas gracias por todo, fue increible y ya te extranamos! Nos vemos en agosto!
It is my second time staying with Gabriela at Casa Yucatan and I simply love staying there. Gabriela is an amazing host. I feel very comfortable at Casa Yucatan. The location is ideal because it is in between the Roma and the Condesa. It is very safe to walk around that area. Thank you for everything Gaby :)
When you go to Mexico City, do stay here! Casa Yucatan is in la Condesa, a super charming part of the city. The B&B is spacious, comfortable, clean. Gabriela made me feel at home from the first minute and went out of her way to make my days pleasurable. She made sure I could find my way around by handing me a city map and explaining the area, and even dropped me of at the restaurant where I had an appointment with my friends upon my arrival. Gabriela stayed in touch through 'what's app' and came by to answer all my questions, or to simply have a chat. Breakfast was ready in the kitchen, there is a nice patio to relax; in short, a very warm home away from home! For my next visit I know where I want to stay!
I had a wonderful stay with Gabriela. She speaks English (and was patient with my poor Spanish.) She was very helpful even before I arrived through our email exchanges leading up to my stay like what to tell my cab driver for easiest directions and advised me on essentials like to only drink purified water (which she provided,)and even sweet enough to reminded me to bring a jacket due to a sudden temperature drop.) She gave me a map to help me get my bearings. She did a thorough walkthrough making sure I understood how to lock doors, security deposit box, etc… She was fairly easy to get a hold of in case I had an emergency or questions. Although it was not clear on the listing about having any guests within the front gate, it was during my visit that learned all guests/guides/smokers are to remain outside the gate to respect the privacy of all guests. Gabriela also was able to make suggestions for transportation to and from the airport.
The place itself is a well lit large patio type central space with 3 rooms opening up to the central space and an adjacent door that leads to the comfortable clean common space of the living room, large dining room table and kitchen with all amenities you could need, (as if you need a lot with all the amazing restaurants in the area.) The bedroom is extremely clean with all the older charms and tiles of the area that give this neighborhood its character. The bathroom shower has great water pressure and the temperature stayed hot. The shower curtain was little close but still no problem. Although not mentioned in the listing, remember to bring your own shampoo/conditioner, but bar soap is provided. The acoustics in the center area can at times during the goings on of the day, but what are you doing home when there's a city to conquer? Because of the acoustics, entering/exiting quietly past midnight is advised if you want the same curtesy from your fellow guests. It should be said that with this set up, it was a great way to meet other fellow travelers, and learn about their travel agendas, guides and dining discoveries, but still remain perfectly private in your room. If you are looking for a frat party place, this is not it. This is for chilled, but not boring travelers.
The location is central and perfect in every way, quieted way from the bustle of the streets. Albeit close to the metro, walking was advisable on the nearby streets day and nightly, as I did. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I will definitely be back!
Response from Gabriela:
Espero volver a verte!. Siempre serás bienvenido
Saludos a todos!
Casa Yucatan was overall a pleasant experience. Gabriela is a delightful, caring, and warm person. She and I shared a few delicious meals, and she provided me with a local cell phone, and was kind enough for me to do a load of laundry in her apartment which was really helpful.
Casa Yucatan is in a hip location and easily walkable to many trendy restaurants, Mukta Yoga studio, the Centro Qi gym, tree and sculpture-lined parks, and great coffee shops and markets. There is easy access to public transport to explore the vast city.
I have a few suggestions for the management that I think could improve the stay for future guests:
1. I would suggest that smoking not be allowed anywhere in the house or in the courtyard (which is not really the great outdoors since it is almost fully enclosed).
2. Establish an alcohol policy and respect guests that do not choose to drink/party.
3. Establish a clear guest policy; management should not have guests in the house if they are not paying guests. There should be clear simple guidelines for the sanity of all guests.
4. There should be an understanding of what is quiet time so that guest(s) are not disturbed by partying. This is particularly important for guests that want to retire early due to jet-lag or a long day exploring the many museums or the pyramids.
5. I would suggest that shampoo (and not just a bar of soap) be provided to all guests.
6. Would be nice if fresh ground coffee (not just instant powdered coffee) should be available as an option for all guests.
7. The bedroom I stayed in had little privacy due to the see-through curtains which open into the common courtyard... Kindly provide better quality coverings over the bedroom doors (large portions of which are glass) and the large bedroom windows.
8. Be sure that clean and dry towels are provided for all guests when there is a shared bathroom.
9. Provide a white-noise maker or a fan for guests (if needed upon request) to muffle the heavy street traffic/ noise from the construction next door (I did bring a white noise maker with me from Boston which was a huge help).
10. Guests should not have to open the main door for gas deliveries, furniture deliveries, cable-guy, etc. Staff/management should be present (or should answer their phone when contacted by guests) to handle such events.
Overall a pleasant stay, and as previously mentioned, Gabriela is a kind and gracious person who genuinely seems interested in the welfare of her guests.
Since Casa Yucatan a relatively new listing, perhaps some of the issues I encountered will be rectified in the near future and based upon feedback/thoughts from other guests.
Gabriela is a great host - incredibly warm and welcoming, and really goes the extra mile to make sure your stay is a good one. The rooms are spacious, with comfy beds, and the common area is lovely for lounging.
I had a wonderful stay at Casa Yucatan. The location is very convenient, two blocks away from parque Mexico and a couple of blocks away from the trendy restaurants of La Roma. Gabriela is an excellent host. She goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and make you feel at home. I would definitely go back to Casa Yucatan.
Response from Gabriela:
Bienvenida siempre! Gracias por el comentario. Un gran abrazo
Gabriela is an amazing host! She goes out of her way to make sure you are well taken care of while staying in her amazing home. The home is a stunning work of art and in close proximity to some of the best neighborhoods that mexico city has to offer. I am definitely coming back to my home-away-from-home at Casa Yucatan!
