We cannot say enough great things about this amazing apartment. I think it may be in the best location of the entire city of Barcelona. The Placa in front was so full of life and because we were traveling with children, it was even better for us - our kids were out there every day playing soccer and making friends with other neighborhood children. We tried the restaurants in the Placa and particularly loved one of them, returning multiple times. There is also a gelateria that we frequented every single night before bedtime :) Javier was incredibly hospitable and outgoing. He arranged a terrific taxi driver to collect us from the airport and had groceries waiting for us in the kitchen. A stroller was there for our youngest child to use, and there were even clothespins to hang laundry with. The apartment is gorgeous and very well kept. It was extremely clean and well maintained. Javier and his wife kindly called to inquire about one of our children when he was sick and were willing to help us find a doctor at a great local hospital. In sum, they could not have been more amazing. If I could, I would live at their amazing apartment year round. For our family it was the trip of a lifetime. The only small advice I would give is that due to a narrow set of stairs it would be difficult for older people or those with trouble climbing to navigate. However my 75+ year old mother went up and down the stairs every day with no trouble. Also the neighborhood is very cheerful at all times of day and night (even at 3 and 4am!) sometimes with firecrackers and other times with music... it is fantastic... but bring earplugs if you are someone who likes to go to bed early. For us, this was the perfect destination.
Perfect location! One block from the train station and one block from the beach. That is exactly what we wanted and exactly what we got. Everything you need is within walking distance. Bakeries, groceries, restaurants, cafés and pubs. We loved it so much we are thinking of buying a place there. There is a little bit of foot traffic at night with people getting home from partying it seems because the train stop is so close but by the second night we didn't notice it much. There is no air conditioning so Javier provided fans. Thank you! Now everything was perfect. I would say we would like to stay there again but hopefully soon we will own a place there. If not we will be seeing Javier soon!
Javier was the perfect host! He sent me a letter to give to the taxi driver so we could get to the apartment from the airport. Since I speak very little Spanish, and would never try to give directions (I would certainly get lost!) The taxi driver (who spoke no English) was able to deliver us to the front door of the apartment with no trouble. The stairs are steep and narrow, as Javier warns in the description of the apartment. My 75 year old mom was able to get up and down with no problem!! They add to the charm of the apartment!
The apartment was clean and spacious. Perfect for our trip. The neighborhood was wonderful. A great area to spend time in. Although we decided to eat at the many cafes in the square where the apartment is located, the kitchen would have been wonderful to cook in. We spent time around the big table in the kitchen eating local pastries (a short walk) and drinking local coffee (same short walk!). It was a wonderful meeting place for the four of us. The bathrooms were clean and it was nice there were two! The two bedrooms were plenty large and all of the beds were comfortable. The front salon, which overlooks the public square, was beautiful! Many local guide books to help you find your way around. The couch made into a very comfortable bed. The salon is a little noisy late into the night, but only because we kept the windows and french doors open. We wanted to experience Barcelona. All of it, including the noise! We loved watching the families gather, with their children and dogs, in the square to visit and play. You would never need to leave the neighborhood if you didn't want to!
Javier was easily reachable by phone and was very welcoming. He arranged a taxi for us to get to our next destination. This was my first experience with airbnb. I could not be happier! I will go back to Barcelona with my husband to explore this beautiful city further.
There are many people who have trouble in Barcelona with crime. We were careful and did not carry a lot of stuff with us. We traveled over the entire city. We ate at many of the local eateries. We sampled local food, wine and beer. (I recommend the olives, mussels, wine, well, pretty much everything we had was wonderful!!) Just be smart and cautious! Barcelona is a city that has a lot to show you. Don't hesitate to stay at Javier's apartment and explore his city! I can't wait to go back!
Thank you, Javier! You made our vacation wonderful!
This was a fantastic apartment. The location on the square was perfect, stores, restaurants and bakeries for fresh daily bread were just steps away. Plus the square provided entertainment each evening - lots of families and dogs and musicians out having fun. The metro was about a 5 minute walk and you can access the whole city from there. For those of you who like walking, you can also walk many places in about 20 - 30 minutes. The location was beautiful and safe. Javier was an excellent host - very responsive all the time. I was able to arrange taxi transport with him from the airport and the driver was waiting for us outside baggage claim with a sign just as promised. It cost about 35 euros for four of us with 6 bags and a guitar!
The apartment itself was very spacious, clean and well decorated with very unique lighting fixtures that added to it's charm. The a/c was key during the hot weather Barcelona was having. Plenty of room for 4 adults. The washer and dryer were also a huge bonus since we were there for a week. The 2 bathrooms were great, the only caveat being that the 2nd bathroom has an extremely small shower. The renovated kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave and "poor-man's" espresso maker for those who need their coffee every morning like me. There isn't a dishwasher but that didn't stop us from cooking full dinners and breakfasts often.
Bottom line, this is a fantastic apartment and I definitely recommend it. I hope to come back and stay again one day!
Beautiful apartment across a plaza. Location is a little far from key tourist sites but we managed to walk there and use the public transportation system with no problem. The host was very welcoming and nice!
I stayed for the weekend at the apartment. It is a charming old apartment in great condition and well stocked. Lovely kitchen is a bonus! Javier couldn't be more helpful. He arranged a taxi to collect me from the airport and was back within minutes to any enquiry. We had a great weekend and are already planning to come back again. Highly recommended.
Love this apartment. This was the second time I have stayed at the apartment and would not hesitate to stay again. Javier is a brilliant host and would highly recommend.
This was a beautiful place. It was so cozy and beautifully decorated. The location was perfect, especially for families. I loved being able to just walk down the stairs and out the door to get a coffee or any meal. The plaza is right there and the kids could run around while we ate. We had to pay an extra 20 euros for a late check in because there was only one train coming into Barcelona in the evening from France. There was nothing we could do about our arrival time, but it does say on the host's site that there is a specified check in time so that was fair. At least we were able to check in and the place was remarkable so it was worth it!
The apartment is really nice and has a traditional style. It is located on a busy plaza which means it has great nightlife and restaurants right around it, but also means people will be celebrating well into the night just beneath you. We found it charming. The only negative was that the kitchen looks directly into a set of offices, so if you walk out to grab your first cup of coffee looking less than ideal, you will be sharing your best side with the folks working at their desks.
The host was very responsive, yet follows a fairly strict set of rules for the house. I had wanted to get my friend checked in a few hours early since her flight arrived earlier than we were getting there, and he would have allowed us to drop off bags but nothing more. I would have been willing to pay for the extra time, but it seemed that was not possible.
Beware of the very skinny steps going up to the apartment. An attendant helped us lift our bags up there and we were quite thankful for his aid. The master bath is great, but the second shower is also very skinny and hard to maneuver in. Oh, and my iphone maps would not find this location, so it is best to use (website hidden) maps to find it.
Overall, I would recommend the location. It is a bit pricey considering alternatives, but it has charm and lots of life outside of it.
The three of us had a terrific time staying at this flat - the location on the little square was lovely, and it was great to have a well equipped kitchen so as to make the most of Barcelona's amazing market produce. Javier was an excellent host, making sure we had everything we needed and responding to questions fast. Recommended!
