Maxim in Hebrew translates as charming- and just like his name suggests, Maxim is a really charming guy. He will go out of his way to do whatever he can to make sure you have a nice vacation in Haifa.
I enjoyed my stay, the easy location and the beautiful view from the roof- especially at sunset when hundreds of birds fly just above your head.
One thing is for sure: I wanna come back. It was a great stay and the flat is locate in the center of town.
Maxim rents a great flat that lives up to every expectation. Plenty of room, comfy bed, gorgeous view, fantastic location, and truly the slowest elevator in the world. I would really recommend this place!
Before providing my review of Maxim Godin’s “Downtown apartment w/ roof . . .”, I’ll preface the review by saying that I went to Haifa to escape the freezing winter in Pennsylvania and work on a textbook that I’m writing during my sabbatical. Max’s apartment was PERFECT in every way for that purpose.
First Max. He is a lovely guy, speaks perfect English, had bottled water and some food in the ‘fridge for my arrival, and even drove me around the neighborhood the afternoon of my arrival to get me oriented.
His apartment is comfortable (great solar-heated shower) and rather interesting. It is in a fairly new office building that has a secure entrance that required a key or code for entry. The other three floors are offices and the apartment, on the top floor, only occupies half the building's footpring – the other half is a finished roof with great views and lots of sun. (A great place to take a break from writing.) The “penthouse” used to be Max’s office (and still has motivational slogans on the walls!) but his business grew and he moved to a larger office on the 2nd floor of the same building. He’s “on site” five days/week, although I did not need him for anything during my visit. It did make returning the key easy. Being on the top floor, the ceilings are higher than normal. There is a large bedroom and a separate office with a good computer desk and a comfy couch. Just what I needed to work on the book.
Now on to location, location, location. It is four minutes from the main train station. Basically, you leave the station, cross a major street (Route 4), traverse a parking lot, and you’re there. It is within easy walking distance from the “shuk” (market streets), two truly great falafel joints (Ha Ezkenim and Falafel George, both in the shuk), and allegedly the best shawarma in Israel (Shawarma Emil), which got my vote. Also five minute walk from the Carmelite cable-subway to Carmel, Ben Gurion street (with a lot of good restaurants, bars, and street activity late into the night), and four minutes from the best restaurants in Haifa, Hanamal 24 (pricey but excellent food, service, and ambience), and Jacko’s seafood. While on the subject of food, Max’s kitchen is entirely functional and even has a citrus juice press. The shuk has everything you want in a middle-Eastern market area: olives, cheeses, a dozen fresh produce vendors, dried fruits and nuts, pita bakeries, several excellent “baklava” bakeries, etc., etc.
I’d say the neighborhood was also perfect. It is a nice mix of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian residents/businesses. My only caution is that each closes on a different “Sabbath”, so you must pay a bit of attention to ethnicity if you want to patronize a particular business or restaurant on a particular day.
I stayed there nearly three weeks and was not ready to leave. I look forward to returning. Thanks Max.
Maxim's apartment is a perfect place to stay when you're in Haifa! Very close to the train station and to the Carmelit subway station as well. The place is nice and clean and the view from the rooftop (it's huge and all yours!) Is priceless!
I totally recommend this place!
The reservation was canceled 60 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Maxim's place was the first stop on a two week trip around Israel by me and my friend, and we were very pleased with it. The apartment had everything two guys could need for a two night stay and the view from the huge terrace to the busy port and the beautiful Hanging Gardens was amazing, especially at night. A great base when you're going to see northern Israel and a short distance away from places such as Acre, Tiberias and the Golan Heights.
Maxim was very helpful in providing tips on what to see in and outside the city, and was always reachable downstairs in his office. The only minor inconvenience was the heating, as during the night my friend complained about the cold a little. The heater + air conditioner was a bit tricky to get working as intended. Other than that, this is definitely the best place to stay in Haifa!
Meeting up and getting the key was very easy. He was very accommodating and helpful with finding free parking. Apartment was clean and everything was just as portrayed. Thanks for helping us have a successful visit to Haifa!
I enjoyed wonderful days in this apartment that far outweighs the annoucement as the amenities and the suberb location. Fully equipped kitchem, reliable internet and a very good bathroom.
Maxim was a very goog host, was always ask, simpathetic and ready for help. Thanks Maxim
If you're going to Haifa, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY! The apt is right across from the port and is less then a 5 min walk from the Central Train Station. The place was very clean, spacious and modern. Queen size bed, nice bathroom and shower, and the roof deck alone is worth the trip!! Seriously the roof deck is incredible with a view of the Ba'hai Gardens (its beautiful lit up at night) and access to a coal BBQ. Other then the apt, Maxim is THE MAN! He left a couple things in the fridge and told me to help myself and made himself available whenever I had a question. Instead of generic answers he actually (website hidden)d specific directions to places of interest and gave me a great overview of the area. I can't say it enough: if you're going to Haifa...STAY HERE!
Good guest. No problems.
Maxim's friends were at my house for a week. The communication with Maxim was good and he responded quickly to my questions. His friends left the place clean and nice. They even left me a gift. And not unimportant: the plants were still alive when I got back ;)
All in all it was a good experience and I would say they are good renters.
Hard working persons, even on holidays! Charming young couple who visited Crete for a short break.
It is has no sence to add more positive ajectives to an excellent attitude. Perfect guests in all aspects. Hope to meet them in the future.
Maxim and his friends where friendly, easy to communicate with. Always welcome here !
Maxim and his friends are so nice guys. Everything with them passed very smooth from booking to leaving apartment. They left the apartment as they found it! Definitly recommended!
Max and his girlfriend are one of the nicest couples you could ever hope to host! Very friendly, considerate and interested traveler in private and also as an email contact during the booking process. They left the apartment as they found it! Very recommended!
