We immediately felt at home here, as if the Waiting House welcomed us. We specially liked that the house is situated in rural surroundings, while still being close to the cities east of LA. I repeat what others have written before us: the house is charming, has all you need and everything works fine. A top experience!
We just got back from spending a couple of days at this lovely location. We had such a wonderful time. The house is even cuter and quainter than the photos made it look, and it has lots of details that made it really charming. Dusty was very accommodating and helped everything go smoothly, even though it was my first time making a booking over airbnb. It was definitely a great experience! We especially enjoyed exploring outdoors around the property, and learning about the local area history in some of the books provided. The tub attracted our attention right away, but I worried that older houses like this might lack hot enough water for baths. Definitely not a problem: it was warm and luxurious. :)
I wish there were more houses like this around still!
This place was awesome!! very quiet!! clean and beautiful!!
This house has soul. It's not a frou frou, Victorian B&B, but a simple and almost Spartan, early-20th-century home for blue-collar ranchers. The view is reminiscent of Italy or Taos, and the setting feels rural even with an omnipresent freeway hum during my visit (typical for Southern California).
The hosts are warm and friendly, with excellent communication before, during, and after the visit. They even left a bottle of wine, which made for perfect horizon-watching breaks on the ample front porch.
The dining room is an excellent spot in which to write, although the glare is strong early in the morning and the room heats up pretty quickly. I had no problem cooling it off by opening the windows (in January).
No complaints at all.
A++! Devore Getaway is fantastic. Since others have described the house etc. in great detail, I'll just say that Dusty was extremely helpful, as this was our first AirBnB experience. Setting the bar high!
The place was lovely, well tended, and full of nuance and charm. Dusty was a a consummate host and everything went beautifully. Another wonderful AirBnB experience!
The place was great. I thought it would be tight with our family of four but it was just enough room and nicely appointed. The period details in the house are a nice touch. It was very comfortable. The check in and check out was simple and painless.
My family and I had a very pleasant stay at this farmhouse. The home was furnished with everything we needed and the views were as scenic as described. The location is quiet and easily accessible from major highways. We also enjoyed a few wonderful walks around the rural neighborhood.
When I first arrived and walked up onto the porch I could barely peel my eyes away from the view. The Waiting House is a little marvel nestled in the foothills. It feeds the psyche with with old California vibes that enrich and delight the imagination. This gem has soul.
Dusty are Kathy are fantastic and thoughtful hosts who provide all that you might need. Thanks to both of you for everything.
Dusty and Kathy Rhodes are some of the nicest people I know. I fly hang gliders with Dusty almost every week end. Both Dusty and Kathy put in countless hours supporting our club and are always the first to volunteer when something needs to get done.
Last summer, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to spend a night at The Waiting House. Dusty and Kathy have done a beautiful job restoring this antique home which is now outfitted with everything from cold beers in the fridge (or a nice bottle of wine) to Wifi. The before and after pictures of the restoration project tell a story of hard work, craftsmanship, and a sincere dedication to preserving a fascinating piece of local history.
Hanging out on the porch, enjoying a glass of wine while listening to the trains off in the distance its easy to feel as if you've just stepped back in time. The place if truly a great find for anyone visiting the area or just needing to get away from the city for a while. Not to mention the fact that The Waiting House is just down the road from one of the best hang gliding and paragliding sites in the world. If you fly and want to get a lot of airtime, The Waiting House is the perfect place to land at the end of your day.
Thank you Dusty and Kathy for sharing The Waiting House with me.
I can't say enough about this house. It has everything you need - beauty, charm, a quiet location. In fact, this is where I wrote my fourth novel, MADAME TUSSAUD. If you're thinking about staying here as a writing retreat, I can highly *highly* recommend it! And if you're simply thinking of staying here as a place to get away, you won't be disappointed.
