I work in the quality field but also dabble in the fine liquor business. My wife and I try to take 2-3 outside-USA trips per year, and we strongly prefer apartments to hotels. Our traveling philosophy is "go somewhere and live the life"--we shop at markets, cook, and try not to worry too much about hitting all of the "sights."
As a guest, we are pretty neat, though we will use the kitchen a lot.
