I'm a writer and I travel a lot, often to misbegotten places. Although I get paid by the word, I don't consider writing my profession. I'd rather call myself a storyteller. Or, even better, a story collector. A flaneur. I try to experience life in real time.
Motto: "Pay attention and tell the truth." Paying attention is the harder but more rewarding part. I want to be a teller only in the sense of a bank teller, facilitating a reliable transaction. Nobody's favorite part of Show & Tell was "tell." So I like to see for myself. Then I do my best to show what I've seen to others.
Australia's drought has hurt farmers but helped miners. Japan's earthquake turned their 7-Elevens into impromptu cell-phone-recharging stations. The Occupy Movement started a year ago -- in London. Tahrir Square is round.
I'm an early riser. I enjoy walking, especially at sunrise. Cities enthrall me. I'm generally quiet, but I love a good conversation. A good friend once called me a "failed introvert."
