Having retired from the travel industry recently, I wanted to keep busy and Nic and I decided to build a guest house in the country. After a year, we found "paradise" - Suurbraak, in the Overberg, about 20km from Swellendam. Suurbraak Schuur was built with tranquility, space and superior fittings/fixtures in mind. Every guest who has stayed is blown away by the views, space and peaceful ambiance Suurbraak Schuur supplies. My favourite destinations for travel are: In South Africa - Mpumalanga (Kruger Park - I just can't get enough of the wildlife). Abroad - Amsterdam (I have been often enough that I know my way around and, because of the layout of the city, am able to walk everywhere). I enjoy good food and am happy that Nic is a brilliant cook - Thai is my favourite. What cant I live without? Sorry to have to admit it, but my cell phone, laptop, GPS, my children's voices and my spectacles!
Being a guest house owner is both very enjoyable and grants one the opportunity of meeting new folk from all over the world. My guests help themselves to fruit and veggies from the garden and I love chatting and giving advise of what to do in the area. My 2 children (Nic and his wife Mia and my daughter Megan) are travelling abroad at the moment but I'm looking forward to their return to Cape Town end 2013.
