I am a professional artist, born in London, and now live in Ashland, Oregon with my husband Matthew ( also an artist) and my son Maurice and stepsons - Asa and Fielding .... I love all that the beautiful West coast of America has to offer- especially the amazing flora and fauna, and of course, the incredible trees! For a tree lover, Oregon is the place to be...We have just come back from an awe inspiring trip to Vancouver Island BC, we went island hopping and walking through the pristine temperate rainforest.... that is my idea of a good time!
San Francisco is my favorite U.S city thus far... Portland, Oregon is a close runner-up, for all it's quirky bars, independent shops and very friendly inhabitants. Amsterdam- a surprisingly tranquil city, is my favorite stop- over on trips back to England.... Our winter weekend pursuit of choice, is skiing .... Oregon gets great snow- especially in the spring... Our local mountain- Mount Ashland is wonderful ... we are close to Mount Shasta too, just over the border in California. Our Summer pursuits here involve a lot of swimming in gorgeous lakes .... and hiking in the forests...and visiting the superb Shakespeare festival which runs for much of the year here in Ashland.
As guests we tend to be out a lot, we love to explore either the urban environment or the natural one, we like to dine out, and go to whatever is on. As hosts we like company and enjoy entertaining, but we are good at giving people their peaceful space. And are respectful of guests who really want little interaction. The nature of the space we rent is perfect for both ... as the house is L-shaped ( the guest quarters being one end of the L) We love sharing what we know of our wonderful local area. Matthew has lived here for about 14 years- so he knows it very well! I am an enthusiastic newcomer. I moved here from London only a year and a half ago..... I think Ashland and it's environs are like paradise!
