The house is fantastically spacious and perfectly located. Mike is super responsive and helpful. If you decide to stay here you'll definitely be in good hands.
Great house & great location in friendly neighbourhood. Amazing local cafe. Mike was very friendly and on hand if we needed anything. can't wait to stay again!
This place was perfect for a friends vacation. The location was impressive when we had our friend from WeHo come visit one day. The house could use a little updating and TLC, but the concrete floors and general feel of the house made it an easy place to maintain/clean. All in all I would say this house is perfect for friends, but wouldn't recommend for a family. We appreciated the hospitality!
Picture-perfect home tucked away in Laurel Canyon—this house is the perfect retreat from Los Angeles' concrete jungle. We were four people staying for the week and loved the walkable distance to the Laurel Canyon Country Mart (there is a makeshift footpath that feels a little daunting in heavy traffic, but is totally doable) and Pace in the canyon (a delicious restaurant). The house itself is smartly decorated and the bedrooms are separated for a real feeling of privacy. The kitchen looks to be recently upgraded with a Sub Zero fridge and all the amenities (though we couldn't find a teapot!). Unfortunately, upon arrival we discovered that the POOL IS NOT HEATED, an oversight on our part I guess since we never asked, but we think it would be nice if this was called out in the listing's text and description (we felt a little cheated). The affable and friendly host, Mike, was uber-accessible via text, phone and email and accommodated a few snafus along the way with a locked washer/dryer unit and Sonos sound system (which never got up and running, but was addressed with a visit from an expert stereo guy nonetheless). No laundry detergent in the house meant it was almost easier to send our clothes out for cleaning (to a place next to the Country Mart... or just bring your own detergent). The beds, linens, and furniture were really comfy, however, we should note that the third "bedroom" is really just an air mattress somewhat awkwardly placed in a room that is open to a curtain-less shower stall and separate toilet with an exposed sink situation so... if you were to be the unlucky guest sleeping here you might be awakened by roomies using the shower/turning on the sink lights/etc. It's not too private. The glass windows were amazing and the mid-century decor is carried throughout with lots of cool, one-of-a-kind pieces. The record player (which we couldn't work) would have been a nice touch, but maybe you'll be luckier (or more handy) with that. Over all, a fantastic location and a really accommodating host—the perfect spot to live out the dreamy Laurel Canyon lifestyle. (Also, park on the street! We scraped the underbelly of our car on the carport "entrance" which Mike warned us about...)
Thanks for taking the time for this Erika, I appreciate it! I will be tweaking the welcome doc and description per your comments. One note, I would nevvver call it a 3 bedroom! It is listed as a 2/2, the air mattress is just there as a backup!
the house is incredible, it's like a step into a special oasis in the middle of Laurel Canyon. everything you could think of is in the kitchen and the house is equipped with top of the line appliances for those who want to use the fabulous kitchen. if you appreciate vintage modern furniture, this will be a wonderland. so many great touches. a lovely spacious gem...
Thanks Marci, glad we worked it all out! I appreciate your notes on all of the quick fixes and will be using them!
We loved our stay at Swallow Drive. The location was perfect with a stunning view across LA to the sea from the front door. The house is at the end of a lovely peaceful, private drive - but only 5mins uber away from sunset and the heart of LA.
We loved the outdoor space and quirky 70s decor. The kitchen had everything we needed. Bathrooms and bedrooms were large and fine. TVs were massive too!
Great value for money considering the surrounding houses in the hollywood hills are worth millions.
Mike was also incredibly helpful. Answered texts and emails immediately no matter what the time difference.
You guys were literally the easiest of all time. I will totally hook you up if you come back. Thanks for the great review!
We had a fantastic two week stay at this property. Wonderful neighborhood—quite and private yet close to everything. Top notch heated pool, hot tub, furnishings, electronics, and decor. Authentic pieces throughout—Herman Miller, Knoll, Nelson, LC4 Chaise, etc. A pair of his & hers Electra bikes were a great bonus and we used them often. Mike was super easy to communicate with as was the concierge, Bob, who met us when we arrived. I would stay here again without hesitation.
The house was exactly as described. The location was perfect. Mike the host was responsive, and gracious, we used it as production hub, for our east coast producers. We will definitely rent this home again.
Thanks Mark, great meeting you and congrats on the show!
We enjoyed our visit to Mike's place. He made us feel welcome and was helpful at all times. Thanks!
Mike's home in Laurel Canyon is extremely well located in West Hollywood… a five minute drive to Sunset Blvd where you will find whatever you need whether it be Trader Joes or Chateau Marmont for a drink. The house is nicely furnished with Danish/mid-century modern appropriate to the house. There is a great "LA feel" and the kitchen is extremely well stocked in case you feel like cooking. It was perfect for my purposes, with two private bedrooms each with bathroom, a great living area and all general mod cons. On-street parking was plentiful, a rarity in Los Angeles. Mike was a great host, responsive and enthusiastic! Many thanks
Mike was a great guest. No complaints here!
Mike is a lovely and polite person. Perhaps not as forthcoming with details on travel plans, which can sometimes create logistics challenges.
A real English man with his lovely Mexican girlfriend, they are nice and easy going. You really want them back...
Mike is one of a kind and I'm happy to call him a long time friend. We met on the streets of Hollywood, two wayward kids just looking for a good time. No, not THAT kind of "good time!" We mainly sought out good music, pretty people & clean(ish) stories to tell our grandkids. As you can see from the pictures of his place, Mike has exceptional taste. But it doesn't stop at home, he's a very sharp dresser as well (this is not an invitation to raid his closet) and his only downside is that you may feel less cool in comparison. And when he says he "knows the city well," that's a huge understatement so take his advice. He'll be able to tell you every hidden gem the city has to offer that will give you a true LA experience.
If you're considering having Mike stay at your place, I would rest freely in knowing he would be an extremely respectful guest. While he's not a "partier," he does seek adventure in anywhere he travels, likes to soak up the regional culture and will probably spend most of his time befriending random locals in the area.
All in all, Mike is a peach.
