I've lived in Hawaii since 1976 and have loved every minute of it. I'm semi-retired. Plants are my passion and this place shows it. I would love to share this magical piece of paradise with you.
I loved staying in this cottage! It's very quiet and peaceful with beautiful views of the national park behind the house. Connie is a real plant person and her driveway is a lush sanctuary in this moist, subtropical environment. The new, light-filled cabin is very clean and lovely -- pretty much everything you would want in a comfortable, off-the-grid experience.
Cell service worked well here; bring a data package or tether if you need additional internet service for now. Connie kindly provides a gallon of drinking water to get you started and many other little amenities that made me feel very much at home. The kitchen included some nice touches like a steamer basket, a blender, and a heavy duty, two-burner gas cooktop, which was great for cooking. Connie provides very soft sheets and blankets for staying warm.
This is an exceptional value, especially for Hawaii. If you love the forest and would like to avoid the touristy bustle for a while, this is a wonderful option in a beautiful rural location. Connie was kind, flexible and helpful. I very much look forward to staying here in the future!
Connie's rainforest getaway was just the retreat we needed. Coming from Honolulu, I fear my wife and I were still baring the residual tension we'd carried to the big island from the big city. But Connie's place--and everything about it, from the quality of the cabin to the peace and solitude of south point--washed that away. I will itemize the things we loved about our stay there:
The pictures do no justice to the beauty of the cabin and the surrounding area. It is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful and safe feeling. My wife and I never felt the need to lock our doors. Connie was a comforting, welcoming, and helpful host.
The kitchen is fun to cook in, which matters a great deal to Mary Catherine and I. Everything we needed for cooking was there. We'd loaded up on food and snacks at Costco in Kailua-Kona earlier that day (also recommended).
The back porch is worth the rent all by itself. My wife and I drank wine and listened to birdsong during the day, which was so sonorous I decided to dig out some audio equipment and record it.
Green Sands Beach is the best beach on the island, and South Point may be the most stunning pasture-land in the world, even rivaling Waimea. Go to Green Sands Beach and walk if you can handle it.
Mare and I have been converted. We are moving to south point and taking Connie out for a thank-you lunch just as soon as we can.
Response from Connie:
Thank you Chris for all your kind words. I will take you up on that lunch! I'm so glad you loved it here as much as I do. I look forward to getting to know you and Mary Catherine a lot better.
Private and clean with a nice large living room. Backyard abuts Volcano National Park - beautiful! Connie was friendly and professional. Would definitely stay there again
Connie's cabin was adorable. It was easy to find and very peaceful. Tucked back in the rainforest, it is surrounded by so many beautiful plants! A great little get away spot.
Connie's place was a great experience for us. Really clean, super comfortable and private. We loved the feeling of solitude this retreat provided. A perfect way to spend our first couple of days on the Big Island. We felt more comfortable here than other places we've stayed elsewhere on this trip. The best thing, is that Connie is a gal who really seems to get it, both from a hospitality sense and an environmentally conscious one. It is just awesome how she provided us an opportunity to leave a minimal footprint! We will be returning soon- Mahalo Connie!
Connie's place is in a wonderful location and is very well appointed. She has paid attention to the the details that count. So while it is "off the grid," it has everything that any couple needs to be comfortable for a few days or a few weeks. Great Airbnb value. Thanks Connie.
My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights there in early December. Try the Lilikoi pastry and lemonade at the cafe in the small town to the east (great road treats for the short drive to Volcanoes Nat. Park).
This home is perfect! Connie is very friendly and offers a look into todays islanders. The home is great! Very private with lots of light. You feel like you are sitting right in the forest and that is from inside the living room. We highly recommend this delightful place.
Wonderful, retreat-like cabin, just a mile or so off highway 11. Connie is very prompt to lead you to the site, which is off the grid, using solar and rainwater. Nights are comfortably cool, but with a big comforter, great for snuggling. She thoughtfully provided a gallon of purchased water for drinking.
I came to Na'alehu/Ka'u for an extended work trip, and I left feeling as though I had been at a retreat. Connie's cabin was the perfect size and had the best accommodations -- even more amazing than I could have asked for. I was very pleased with my stay and will surely be contacting Connie for any future extended stays down her way. Mahalo nui loa! A hui hou!
Connie is a great host, very friendly and likeable. The cabin was very clean and everything was in there what we need. A beautiful place in a wonderful rainforest, so quiet and peaceful. We loved this place and felt very comfortable. Highly recommended!
