Love to spend time hiking running kayaking - enjoying the incredible beauty of Sonoma: river ocean redwoods and great food and wine! PS Jayne is the one taking the picture!

We just had our second terrific stay at Joe and Jayne's. (Looking forward to this year's visit definitely helped me through the brutal east coast winter!) The house is nestled into a hillside of ferns and redwoods as beautiful as in any park. Photos don't do it justice. Joe and Jayne are very thoughtful hosts - they have put together a great binder of information about specific things to see and do nearby, and cheerfully answered all the questions we peppered them with beforehand. And homemade cookies to boot?! Heaven.
This is truly a beautiful place for a perfect retreat. The house is unique, lovely and well appointed - has everything you need. The grounds are beautiful with paths through the redwoods right outside the door. Jayne and Joe couldn't be nicer! And thank you for the homemade oatmeal cookies - they were great!
We had a really great stay in this cozy cabin. The location is hard to beat -- you're literally across the street from the Russian River, with a redwood forest (with great trails) for a backyard, and just 15 minutes or so from an incredible coast (check out Goat Rock Beach). More inland, you'll find wineries, good food and an excellent skatepark among other things. We chose a chilly weekend but the cabin warmed up quick, and the wood stove was a godsend. Overall, a great choice for a rustic retreat. Recommended.
This was an ideal getaway. The greenery and tall trees were just what the doctor ordered for our family. We arrived later at night and it was helpful to have the motion lights draw us up the path to the house. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious house - often pictures exaggerate, but not here. Our family of five did very well in the house and the welcoming cookies were enjoyed by all.
The little town of Duncans Mills has to be the best gem on the Russian River. It's quaint, but has what you need. What you don't need is up in Guerneville (a bit fast-paced for our intentions).
We hiked the green trail out of the backyard into town, took bikes there too. We canoed out of the very quiet (it was cool Fall) Cassini Campgounds. We ventured up to Fort Ross, down to Bodega Bay, and hiked, strolled, took it easy for the entire time we were (website hidden) and wifi internet kept us in touch as the World Series was going on at the same time. Otherwise, we unplugged and enjoyed it.
The perfect escape!
We had a great stay in this cozy cabin! We felt at home at once and everything we needed (kitchen supplies, bikes, etc) was present, including homemade cookies! Information about the area and tips for fun things to do are available at the house for free and Duncans Mills is truly a charming town. Do try the pastries at the bakery!
We would definitely come back, thank you again Jayne & John for a wonderful weekend!
We had a wonderful two days at Riverfern. It's a cozy, secluded place, lovingly and conscientiously put together with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. There was nothing that we needed that was missing. Joe and Jayne allowed us to arrive early and leave late (I suppose we weren't scheduled back to back with another guest, but still, it was a generous gesture), and checked in several times before arrival, to make sure we had all the information we needed, and once while we were there. Being pet friendly was a special plus for us, with our senior, mostly blind dog who we wouldn't and couldn't leave behind. Many thanks to our hosts, we definitely recommend.
The perfect getaway spot! Great value in a gorgeous location. Finding Joe and Jayne's place made our July 4th weekend. I would move in here permanently if I could.
Really relaxing getaway! The house is clean, warm and quaint :) The fenced in front yard made the house very private and the backyard has a lovely trail through the woods if you'd like to explore the property a bit. Joe and Jayne were wonderful hosts. We had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay!
We had an incredible time at Joe and Jayne's place. It is the perfect getaway cottage--cozy, quiet, and comfortable. The house is nestled in the woods and backs into a few trails leading from the backyard. Cookies were left for us on the kitchen table and the entire house is stocked with everything you would need for a relaxing weekend. Would return tomorrow if I could!!
We had a great stay at Joe and Jayne's place. The house is very well equipped, including delicious coffee and baked cookies! It was very easy to communicate with Jayne in advance and everything worked out well.
The house is in a great kind of magical spot, amidst redwoods and ferns, the perfect place for a weekend out of town. It is a very beautiful area, close to the coast and the Armstrong woods. Duncan Mills has the best bakery in the area. Guerneville is a great place to go for dinner or a drink, access the Armstrong woods, etc. Monte Rio has a movie theater! And the Russian River offers canoeing, hiking, etc.
So glad you enjoyed your stay rain & all! You will really like the hot summer days!
All the best! J&J
