Mitra Khayyam is a 30 year old woman has always loved fashion and art. She had been making magazines since the age of nine, but found that putting pen to paper just wasn't her thing. Instead, she married her passions by applying her creativity to the business end, studying Design Management at Parsons The New School for Design in NYC.
After paying her dues in the industry for several years, during which time one of the most prominent fashion photographers told her she'd never work in this town again, Mitra decided it was time to start working for herself.
Blood is the New Black, the artist-centric tee-shirt company she founded in 2004, is based on an alternative business model she created for her senior thesis, and that same year she was named one V Magazine's "Seventeen Most Industrious" in NYC.
While BITNB continues to grow as a global platform for emerging artists, Mitra herself has branched out, lending her unique sensibility to children's clothing line Little Warrior, and developing some very special personal projects inspired by her love of all things Americana.
She currently lives in Los Angeles, CA with two dogs and a whole lot of country records.
