I was planning on staying here for about eight weeks, but I had to leave after five weeks "at the landlord's insistence".
I am grateful that I had a place to stay for those five weeks at such short notice and for a very reasonable price. If my stay wasn't cancelled part of the way through I would have given a higher rating.
Pretty basic. Kinda like a fraternity house in a mansion on the hill. Crash where you can find a bed or mattress. Lots of used bedding laying around. Bring your own linens and a sleeping bag. Nice guests - fairly quiet and respectful. Decent parking and a little hard to find. Super fast free wireless internet.
Good place to stay
Hacker House was great! It's like a 3 story small mansion on a giant hill overlooking the city. It's got small interesting entrepreneurs from, literally, all over the world (myself included). The tenants were kind. My stay was nice. I'll be coming back soon.
guys...this is a great place! it was just the perfect location for us: really close to stanford (palo alto) and such a wonderful view!!! sitting in the sun on the terasse, enjoying the view, old trees, deer on the grass in front of the house, eagle flying by, fast internet, really cool and nice people. if you have the chance, go there. you will not regret it ;-). a really wonderful experience. thaks gain for the great time!
Friendly group of people and perfect if you're a startup looking to network!
Great experience with some interesting folks. The location is prime. Best possible option for the money (if you like meeting new people and are techie or entrepreneurial). The house was quite cold, and the sleeping arrangements were unorganized, but that didn't faze a group of hackers.
I will be honest here! With no ill intent to defame this location. I must share my unfortunate displeased experience. The house is huge and the door seems to always be unlocked to enter. Parking wa adequate But I had some trouble getting out because of the tight space. Once inside, I spoke with Arjun via phone and he told me I could pretty much stay anywhere. I looked in all the available rooms and spaces and found mostly every area to smell terrible, mattresses thrown everywhere, dirty pillow cases, sheets, blankets, etc. Were everywhere! In addition, past guest left open containers, beer, etc. The kitchen was not two dirty outside the mildew dish rags. I literally had to go to Walmart and spend $300 on clean linen, towels, pillows, in addition to air airfreshner and cleaning spray/products. After 2 hours of cleaning and reorganizing upstairs room, it was finally suitable to stay in. Arjun was nice enough to let me stay in their because it wasn't booked yet but every day someone would come into the room and take my personal heater(no privacy when I wasn't there). In addition, I wrote my name on all the food I bought and put in the fridge on the same shelf and someone took my leftovers from P.F. Changs and my entire bottle of cranberry juice!!! Though it cost me 4 dollars, it didn't belong to anyone else and when I told Arjun, e said... It wasn't him. I asked him to put a note up, if possible as a friendly reminder but he did not. The last night I was to stay he told me someone had booked the room earlier that day via email
And said I could change my check out day if I didn't want to stay in any other area, however they were all still pretty disgusting. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values cleanliness and respect of personal items.
Great stay--killer views from a mansion on top of the hill and good amenities
The place is amazing for hackers and people who want to build their own startups. You can meet brilliant people from all over the world here. Situated on a hill, the mansion has got splendid sunrise view as you could overlook San Jose bathing under sunlight. It was a pity I never met Arjun in person though.
Arjun left his room very messy when he checked out. He left spills, crumbs, and spilled food all over a monitor a housemate lent to him. As we do not charge a cleaning fee, it's in our house rules to be neat and leave the space as you found it.
I've known Arjun for 10+ years. He is a great guy and I really want to make it out to visit his mansion soon!
College friend from UCSD days. Arjun's an honest and kinda dude.
