What an incidence of fate to have connected with Daisy on my first AirBnB experience. Her generosity, positive outlook, and enthusiasm for meeting people from all walks of life were uplifting and heartfelt. During the week I was very busy at a conference so seldom had the opportunity to interact with the others in the house. However, the weekend brought much laughter and relationship building to the extent of sharing contact information to connect in the future. The large old Victorian is comfortable with artistic flare - an reflection of Daisy's eye for aesthetics and her cheery soul. The house is quiet and the side porch offers the perfect space for coffee, work, and reflection while enjoying the soft cool breeze of the morning. The Hudson River is in easy walking distance as is public transportation. There are several community gardens between the house and the newly renovated Yonkers river front. The people there were very enthusiastic about sharing their garden stories. If you have time, be sure to schedule time to see the Science Barge, an educational off-the-grid hydroponic garden on a barge in the Hudson River. Yonkers recently recovered an underground river that flows into the Hudson that had been covered with a parking lot. After finding many species of fish in what had been thought of as a dead river they opened it up in a process called daylighting. There are several restaurants with in walking distance including the pricier tourist options that surround the waterfront. However, if you prefer a more local ethnic flavor as I do, there are many opportunities to find something a couple of blocks to the east. There are some areas of poverty between the house and the waterfront but the people are friendly and helpful. I didn't feel unsafe once and did walk after dark. Also, unlike other cities I was only approached once for money. Manhattan is an easy train ride ($10.00 + subway $2.75).
Because of car trouble (clutch went out), I needed to stay in NY longer than expected. Daisy came to the rescue and gave me a place to stay while the car was being fixed.
Staying with Daisy was a wonderful experience in every way. She turned a work trip into a vacation. You will LOVE her laugh. I can't wait for her to come visit me in Louisville.
Thank YOU Daisy and Karl (an Neil).
I found this listing while searching for a place that my dad could stay at that is closer to his office than our home is (since he's recovering from an injury).
We spoke with Daisy about the home and she kindly agreed to accommodate him for a 10-day period.
There was a small hiccup the first few days because of the mattress in the room my father had -- it was softer than we had expected, which wasn't great for my dad's neck injury.
Daisy was away during this (she was traveling overseas), but she took the time to communicate with the caretaker of the home (Neil). He was able to to add some more support to mattress, which made my dad more comfortable.
Things went smoothly after that. The home itself was very nice and the other guests staying there were kind as well. It is also in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
If you're looking for a nice place to stay in the NY area at a fair price, you'll be happy choosing this home.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Daisy, is a superb host. I couldn’t be happier about my stay. I would certainly book again when in the area. I stayed in a large private room and shared a bathroom. The house is in a beautiful neighborhood near the train station. You can’t go wrong with a stay at Daisy’s.
The Area and place is absolutly amazing. Daisy is a wonderful person who always take extra care of her guests and ensure that they are well comfortable & happy in the household.
I highly recommed this place. It would exceed your expectations!
I had a wonderful stay; my second time and I would be happy to go back when I travel to that area again! Thank you, Daisy!
Daisy was very helpful in communications and also with directions!! The room was clean and comfortable.
The house is in a cute, safe feeling neighborhood within easy walking distance of restaurants. The room is very large and airy. Quite comfortable. The bohemian house has the feel of a refuge for artists and foreign corresponds. Daisy and her husband are very friendly and welcoming. I hope to stay with them again!
I stayed at Daisy's house for about a week while I was waiting for my apartment to be ready. Most of her tenants seem to stay much longer. The "Cozy Room" was not available, so Daisy gave me a slightly larger room on the lower level. There was no air conditioning, but my room stayed nice and cool, even in the middle of a heat wave. Everyone in the house was very friendly, especially Ms. Daisy who made sure I had everything I needed for my stay. The house is located near the train, which made my commute very easy. I booked the room for 10 days but ended up leaving earlier when my apartment was ready before I expected. Daisy kindly processed a refund for the nights I didn't use.
The Hein house is a large, friendly and comfortable place decorated with Daisy's paintings and antiques. The room I stayed in (daisy didn´t give me the "cozy room" but a larger one because that larger one was not occopated at the time I stayed at Daisy) is very spacious and clean and furnishings are comfortable. It has a queen bed and the size would make it comfortable four two people. Both Daisy and Karl are friendly, generous and accommodating. They are cheerful and respectful folks and eager to please all. The neighborhood is lovely and safe. It is convenient to the MetroNorth train station it being two blocks away but one may also take the subway and bus. Everyone in the house is free to use the kitchen anytime and the laundry.
I recommend this home highly and will come back to stay again when in New York.
Nice, friendly person. Thank you ciao
Response from Daisy:
Yes, because I cut myself with the knife that I pried from the crowded utensil drawer...
Since Daisy is gone drinking a spritz at sunset on our terrace is no longer the same thing! Ever since Karl left the profile view of the Duomo of Siena which stands on the lights of the historic city no longer has the same contemplative spirit! Daisy and Karl are guests who know the true meaning of hospitality in a private home, they will be with you to buy the fruit from the farmers and good morning at breakfast with their energic and radiant smile will be a glorious day. They strive for life, they are hunger for life.
While you -the host- are thinking that you're taking care of them, actually they are the ones that have adopted you.
And friendship is just forever
Karl and Daisy are the most amazing people you can meet. In spite of being in a wheelchair, Karl hasn't lost the will to live and discover new places and new people. And Daisy... what could I say about her? She is the most cheerful and generous person I ever met!
We really enjoy having them at home, and adopted them as our family members. All of us - even my 7-years old son Leonardo - got very involved in making their stay at home as enjoyable as possible, and to let them take the maximum profit of their visit to our City.
Fortunately, despite the short time and despite all the difficulties, they manage to visit the most important places!!
And our best reward was to see their happy faces
We are missing you a lot!!! And we look forward to visiting you soon in NY or receiving you again at home.
Daisy is a very nice guest!!!
Thank you for all
