Fantastic space & place!
If you're looking for a base from which to explore the Marche de Puces (Flea Market), you won't find a better location, or a place that better shows off the sort of finds you might discover in your wanderings.
Jean-Pierre has clearly worked very hard to create a unique and eclectic yet comfortable place to stay. Where else can you find a bathroom sink made out of an old planter! The loft itself is small but very functional. We loved the industrial look and metalwork. The space is a converted storefront on a main street, with lots of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. We brought our car, and found free street parking for the weekend right around the corner. There is a metal shutter to close at night for additional security.
Jean-Pierre was very accommodating and helpful. We had a bottle of wine, bread, and tapenade waiting for us when we arrived. He even let us keep our bags in the loft until we left Sunday evening.
The only thing I would mention is that the loft is above a Metro line, and the sound of it going by is a bit noisy. didn't bother us, but is probably worth noting.
Overall, a fantastic stay!! Made our Flea Market experience even better.
This place was so amazing. Wonderful host, creative and clean accommodation, seconds away from the great flea markets in Saint-Ouen. Definitely worth a stay!
Very nice stay at Jean Pierres cool, nice flat. He and his daughter are very nice hosts, very helpfull and welcoming. The apartment was great - although you may want to bring earplugs (the metro is quite loud).
I would not recommend this place, as I had a really bad experience. The location is not safe at all for travellers. In fact, the cab driver warned us that we should be very careful at night, cause there are very large number of robberies and burglaries reported in this neighborhood. The room itself is somewhat different from what we call an apartment. It was converted from a first-floor commercial place and it has no separator (but the door/door shutter) from the main street. As it looks like a closed gallery with opaque door/windows from outside on the street, people smoke by the door (literally a few feet) all the time. Sometimes they argue with each other and talk on the phone in fron to the door, which we can't help but hearing. The worst thing happened in the middle of night. Some drunkers kept kicking the door shutter, which made us awake feeling so nervous. We searched and moved to a hotel room first thing in the next morning. The host would not take any responsibility and pass the buck to me after what had happened. My biggest concern was my wife had to stay one more night by herself. He didn't care what we'd been through and my concern regarding her safety. He responded as if it was not a big deal. Even though I've lived in NYC for 6 years, he kept saying and tried to convince me that it's a common thing to happen in any big city. I tried to negotiate with him offering half refund for the remaining period, which he declined without consideration. Considering the neighborhood and proximity to the city center, the rent is too overpriced for his flat.
We loved this apartment. It is a little out of the hustle and bustle and had a very relaxed community feeling but the Metro was right there and buses turned out to be amazingly easy.
The apartment itself is so cute and very accommodating. It was also very secure and quiet and the bed is very comfortable.
And Jean Pierre is such a great host. Apart from the flowers, the robes the coffee and baguette and juice, the wine and everything else we could need on arrival, he was delightful company and such an interesting man to meet.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting an alternative to a hotel.
Clean and comfortable, excellent location. Jean Pierre was very easy to deal with and helpful.
