My stay was awesome, location to town excellent, clean and quite. Douglas was very nice. Mahalo keeping Hilo beautiful.

Douglas was a great host...though I only was there to sleep. The room was very clean and everything necessary provided. I neglected to read the amenities...there was no Wi-fi (website hidden). This home is on a busy street in easy walking distance to the Hilo bay waterfront, which was great. However, for me it was a bit too noisy - could hear neighbors laughing and talking till late and traffic noise probably didn't quiet down till 12:30 am or so. Depends on what your needs are...next time I will look for something in a quieter area.
Everything was great. Friendly hosts, comfy bed, and a clean room. Highly recommend.
It was a pleasure meeting Doug & Sue. My stay was for two months, and I often spent time talking with Doug out on the lanai (patio). Sue was there for whatever I needed, and such a sweetheart. The room is off the street and private. When you need total peace and quite, from the Coqui Frogs, just close the door and windows. The twin fans keep you nice and cool, or you can turn on the AC. Coqui Frogs inhabit the entire island, and sing like birds throughout the night. I found that within three days you start to enjoy the music. Downtown Hilo is two blocks away. For coffee drinkers, Starbucks is a block and a half, the local rooster might even stroll through, while you're sipping your coffee. If you are going to have a long stay, take a large screen notebook or laptop. There is no TV in the room, but Wi-Fi can be picked up from the surrounding area, so you can watch movies on HULU or YouTube. The room is neat and clean, and the bathroom is modern. So for the price, this is the best deal in Hilo.
Aloha nui loa,
Thanks Rich...we look forward to a long future of friendship...please stay in touch!!
Mahalo and see you soon!!

Convenient location, walking distance to downtown Hilo. Friendly hosts, available for help if you'd like it; if not, they are respectful of your privacy. Unit is good for both short term and long term use, but long term visitors will appreciate the kitchen, which includes cookware to make meals.
Douglas greeted us right when we arrived and gave us the key to our room. The room was clean, and fairly spacious with a patio, small living room, bedroom, and bathroom. There was some traffic noise during the day, but it quieted down at night (except for the Hilo coqui frogs!). The location was very convenient for walking to downtown restaurants, so if you're looking to explore Hilo on foot, this is a great place. Not luxurious, but definitely a good value.
We stayed 4 nights in Doug and Sue's appartment.
They welcomed us the first day and gave us the keys and explained everything. They are a wonderful couple.
The appartment/room is as you can see in the pictures, wide, clean and confortable, and in Hilo Downtown. But you can park your car in the street without restrictions.
What I love about the place is that it has its own door to the street and private lanai. So you don't have to enter in somebody's home to get to your room.
The house doesn't have wifi, but there are couple of places near it (mcdonalds and starbucks) where you can get connected.
The only problem we saw was the noise of cars during the day (fortunately it decreases during the night). The house is facing a busy street in Hilo and you can hear the cars very loudly.
Before booking this place we did a research and the hotels in the area are very old and expensive, so we think this is a great place to stay in hilo.
Douglas and his wife hosted me short-time which I appreciate very much. The small single apartment can be reached by a separate entry. The room is clean and there is a microwave, eating irons, a fridge. The main entrance a metal door with a curtain and the door to the room is also lockable. Wifi can be used in restaurants which are close by. Parking spot is right in front of the apartment. If you search an inexpensive room close to the city center in Hilo for just sleeping its comfy to stay there.
What a great spot to stay in Hilo, I just wish I could have spent more time there. It was the perfect place to stay before my early flight out of Hilo, clean, cozy, full of amenities and (most importantly for me) less then 10 min from the airport. Also my hosts were very nice to wait for my arrival, my phone was dead due to a water mishap and they were very nice to wait for me even thought I wasn't able to let them know my situation.
