We chose this as a destination in Normandy because we saw the review that the food was great. We flew from Thailand and drove to this. Ricaldo and Mickey did not let us down.
We dine with them for 2 days. I must say that the food was perfect. The oyster was one of the best that we ever tried. Not only that it fresh but the homemade shallot sauce was splendid. The lobster on the first day was also good.
The second day we had special recipe dish of ricaldo. The oyster with Foie gras, if you have a chance you should try this. The lamb shoulder grilled on apple wood was excellent too. We wish we could be there forever.
The gite was clean and as good as the picture. The bed was comfortable and its so tranquility.
Im not a type of people that write review but only read. This time, i dont hesitate to do so because we enjoyed staying there so much.
A WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY!!!
We will come back for sure.
Ricardo and Mickey are genuine and sincere hosts and it would be difficult not to feel real affection towards them and their wonderful home. They go to great lengths to ensure you enjoy your stay and we found them to be ultra-flexible and accommodating. Full of local knowledge and fantastic suggestions of what to do and where to visit during our stay, they really enriched our visit to Normandy. Any foodies would be delighted to happen upon A Carbonnel, with Mickey providing restaurant quality food (locally sourced by Ricardo) served in their dining room in front of a 17th century fireplace. A perfect setting for us to spend our first wedding anniversary.
Ricardo, his wife Mickey and their children are delightful people. Worldly, wise and full of energy, talking to them is a holiday in and of itself. Their 17th century ferme is, in many ways, a family and life project of theirs - which you can tell from the attention to detail and beauty that has been tastefully applied to all corners of the property. As tricky it is to find at first, as removed from this world and almost magical it seems.
But don't be fooled: this is not an untouched and removed manoir forced into the digital age of tourism by need, but the home of a modern, cosmopolitan and very cultured family that has chosen, after seeing much of the world and its wonders, to make these parts their home. Unless you're not as open-minded as you think you are, staying with them will be like staying with friends you just haven't met yet.
As for the basics: all as described and much better. You should, if there is any chance, take Mickey up on her offer to cook you dinner one night. In view of the conversations you're very likely to have, it'll be buy one, get one free.
We had a very nice time. Ricardo and his family made us feel welcome and the house was spacious, well-appointed and quiet. It was a good starting point to see all of Normandy.
Thanks Ricardo, everything was perfect... expect we didi not had in off time to enjoy ;) We are sorry we did not say good bye because we were really short in time for the weeding brunch, hope to come back really soon,
Laura and Mathieu
We really enjoyed our stay at Carbonnel. Very friendly and attentive hosts and the gîte has all you need.
Very nice place to stay! Believe Ricardo & Micky, the beaches around are the best bet if you plan to have some tranquility around the guestroom.
The guestroom itself is very nice and very well equipped. There are 3 floors, this being a very comfortable and convenient solution for families with kids!
We spend 3 wonderful nights at this guestroom and would definitely stay there again if we plan to travel back in the region!
Wonderful days in Carbonnel!
It is difficult to say something new about this lovely gîte and Ricardo and Mickey :-)
So, we just can totally agree to the other feedbacks. The gîte is charmingly decorated and fully equipped. On our first evening we enjoyed a fantastic dinner provided by Mickey and Ricardo. We can highly recommend this.
The location of the gîte is beautiful and calm that gives you the possibility to relax and enjoy your stay. It is also a good starting point for trips in the sourroundig to historical villages (thanks to Ricardo for his great advice and the mini-guide).
We will come back for sure!
Response from Ricardo:
We look forward to seeing you again...
Go there. You can´t have a better landlord!!!
I have known Ricardo and family for more than 6 years as friends. They have a great welcoming/laidback attitude but with high standards with the things that count. Mickey, Ricardo's wife, is the most amazing chef and makes good use of the excellent local produce and seafood. Their style would suit most types of travellers but specifically those that enjoy a place with character which gives you a real local French experience. We have spent many short breaks with Ricardo exploring the Cotentin countryside and beaches. I would recommend Ricardo's BnB without reservation, It's a stunning place and hope to be back there soon myself.
Ricardo is one of the most amazing people you will ever get to meet - you will connect with him in a second, as if you know him from somewhere else! He knows about food, wine and everything related to enjoying life... very nice guy!! He and his family are kind and caring, and I'm sure that by staying with them, you will have a great time and some memories to recall once you are back home!! Two thumbs up!!
