Bjorg couldn't greet us but her son, Jon, was very welcoming, helpful and informative about the flat and the local neighbourhood. Also provided his phone number if any problems arose (none did).
The flat was lovely. Underfloor heating in the middle of winter (temperatures below zero) was a very nice revelation for us. If anything, it was too hot at times and we turned the thermostats down in the bedrooms.
Bjorg's personal taste in furniture, design and art shines through everywhere and although it wasn't all to our taste (though we did have a design classic chair in common) we felt very much at home and much better than a boring hotel or serviced apartment.
There was also some fantastic views across the city and it was only a short bus ride into the centre. We could see the main attractions (cathedrals) very easily in the not too distant horizon. Watching the New Year's Eve fireworks for a few hours was perfect and we were very lucky with clear skies for this and woke up to a beautiful snow covered city on the 1st January.
The neighbourhood is quiet, just what we wanted, and local shops (great baker and fishmonger particularly) are only a few minutes walk away. You will, however, need ice grips if you go in the winter. We found them absolutely essential.
Local restuarants are a little further afield, another 5-10 minutes away but the best are in the centre we thought.
We fell in love with Iceland and will return we hope. This is as much because we fell in love with Bjorg apartment as well.
We recommend without hesitation!
Bjorg and Finnbogi's place was great. It's pretty clear they both have great taste in art and furniture, and the apartment has so much natural light. There are views of downtown, the ocean and the mountains.
They were also very flexible checking us in and out, and Finnbogi did a great job explaining everything in the apartment to us.
It takes about 30 mins to walk to Harpa and other downtown spots, and there is also a bus (the 3 or the 6) that will take you downtown fairly quickly. Groceries, fishmarket and bakery are close by.
I highly recommend staying here!
New or renovated flat very comfy, clean, and with the nice touch of interesting/design/clever furniture.
Bjorg's apartment is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. It has wonderful views of the city, and was a lovely place to end the day. Bjorg was also easy to communicate with and very hospitable. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it to others!
We were extremely happy with this apt. As three artists working in the Hof for the week, Bjorg thought of absolutely everything - like going from home to home! The apt is beautifully located with stunning views of the surrounding mountains as well as a snug balcony, but spacious rooms (even though we only used two) The apt was well heated and designed artistically with lovely touches and with comfort. Loved the table for work purposes and the great choice of music provided as well as an array of herbs, flasks, and sandwich bags for travelling and ample ware to use. Thanks Bjorg :)
The apartment was really great! It was spacious and big enough for our group of six people. We also had a great view of the fireworks above city central on Reykjavik Culture Night.
Everything went smoothly and well with Björg also!
Amazing apartment ( truly chic!), great location and great host. We will definetly be back! Thanks Bjorg!
This apartment is big, super-clean and full of personality! It's 20 mins walking distance to down town Reykjavik. Cozy, warm and very quite. Wi fi network is fast and reliable. The son of the host waited for us even very late at night. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Please, note that the number of the building is 103 (we had hard time finding it!).
Our group turned to airbnb after we found the local hotels to be all booked up for the holiday weekend, and we couldn't be happier about the accommodations at Bjorg's apartment in Akureyri. The apartment was exactly as pictured, very clean, spacious, and comfortable. We enjoyed the location very much, as we were able to walk to dinner, shops, and all of the holiday festivities in town for the 4 nights we stayed there. Bjorg was responsive to our questions and easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend Bjorg's apartment to anyone looking for a comfortable apartment in Akureyri.
Björg has two amazing apartments in Iceland, one in Reykjavík and one in Akureyri. The one in Akureyri is perfectly located, very close to down town. You can walk everywhere and the views from the window are amazing. The larger one in Reykjavík has one of the best views in the city - just spectacular! It is big and spacious and just lovely. It is centrally located with everything you need within walkin distance. Aside from good location and great views the apartments are just so beautiful - it really shows that Björg is an amazing designer, every detail is thought of.
Björg is also a welcoming and hospitable person. She is reliable and I'm confident that you will enjoy your stay with her.
A beautiful place in heart of Akureyri. The location was perfect, could walk to all places in Akureyri even though we had a car.
The flat was comfortable in every way, was actually above our expectation, warm and fancy and full of space. The beds are also all comfortable, rooms big enough for two persons and all rooms had flat screen TV which was good for the kids in our case.
The flat was all very clean and feels as home and is really welcoming you.
We had a lovely stay in Bjorg´s flat in Akureyri and we really recommend staying there.
