I loved my experience of Oaxaca and it all began when Saul replied to my airbnb enquiry. He was quick and helpful. Then he actually picked us up at the airport. He and his mother were exceptionally gracious and their home was comfortable and spacious. We had three people in our family group and they gave us two bedrooms that each had large beds and balconies. The neighborhood felt safe and had lovely flowers. There is an elementary school across the street and it was charming to see parents walking hand-in-hand with their children. We stayed for ten days and traveled to another region one night while keeping this home as our base. It was nice to return to. The hosts are very kind and they even have a second floor patio that is perfect for yoga practice because of the nice view and smooth tiles. You do have to accept that the carpeting and paint are tired and the pillows lumpy. Still it is well cared for. It is a great place in a fascinating locale. Oh, they also provide a big bottle of purified water for drinking and tooth brushing. That's helpful. And the shower is big and clean. I hope to visit again one day.
Saul, and his mother Rosa, were fantastic, friendly hosts. Upon arrival, Saul picked me up from the airport (he also dropped me off at the airport when I left), showed me around Oaxaca, and took me out to lunch. The house and room were large and well-kept. It's about a 30 minute walk to the Zocalo, but as others have mentioned, it is actually quite a nice walk.
Nice place, very friendly people. Saul even took the time to meet us at the airport! His Mom is very lovely, gracious, and gives incredible hugs.
Saul and his mom were extremely welcoming upon arrival. Saul is a person who will go out of his way to accommodate you. He showed us around on our first day and made sure we understood the bus system, how to walk to the centro, and where the markets were. It's an easy 20-30 min walk to the centro, so we never used the bus. The neighborhood is safe and the house is spacious. We enjoyed our stay and would return.
Todo muy bien. Saúl es súper amable y atento, volvería a su casa sin ningún problema.
Saul & his mom were absolutely lovely. I had to change my arrival time several times and Saul was extremely accommodating. He picked me up from the bus station, took me on a tour of Oaxaca, and made excellent suggestions on how to spend my time there.
The house is a 20-30 minute walk from the center of the city. It was a lovely walk into town, but the walk back is less pleasant. It is in an unusual culdesac type of area that can be accessed from a foot bridge that I could not find at night. I went around the culdesac to the street opening at the top. This is not much that further, but again at night it can be confusing. There are also some desolate stretches that felt fine during the day, but less comfortable at night. To be clear, I think it is totally safe and very suburban neighborhood, but I would have preferred to be closer to the center of things at night, where it is more populated.
The room for rent and the guest bathroom need a deep cleaning.
We feel in love with Oaxaca thanks to Saul and his mother, Rosa. They are amazing hosts, helping us with every request. Rosa made me her world famous tea when I was experiencing stomach issues; and Saul provided generous lifts upon request. Two of the loveliest people we have ever stayed with! Don't be thrown off by a location out of town as its a lovely neighbourhood and the stroll into town was easy (basically following one road) and became one of our favourite parts of the day!
Such an excellent host. We were picked up from the bus station shown around in the car and dropped back at the bus station when we checked out. This was very much appreciated. The house is in a nice neighbourhood and we enjoyed our walks to and from the centre along the old cobbled road.
Saul and his family is very kind, and Oaxaca is my favorite city in Mexico. Saul comes to pick up me at the bus station and show me around the city. He also introduces some good taste restautants to me which serve cheap and delicious mole sauce. When I find I lost my charger of camera, his father drives me to the shop to buy it. I really appreciate it. If I come back to Oaxaca, Saul's house is still the best choice.
