My wife and I renovated this house. It is our primary residence and we rent it out when we are out of town for longer than a couple weeks at a time.

We had a great time at Abe's house for SXSW. The house is in a residential neighborhood about a twenty minute walk from downtown or a quick bike ride. We rented the house and the guest house in the back and fit 8 people comfortably. Abe even bought us some extra aero beds so we could all fit in, got us some snacks and drinks for the week, and gave us a ride to the airport when our cab didn't show up. Great time, comfy couch, beautiful kitchen.
I've known Abe and Ally for a long time. They're great people: down to earth, kind, happy. I've been hosted on their couch numerous times and i must say, it was always a pleasure.
Their house is very nice, the charm of "old Austin", ( mean it was originally built in the 20's) with all the comforts and amenities of a brand new home. Its ridiculously close to downtown too.
A bunch of friends and I stayed at Abe's place during SXSW for the long haul (Interactive + Music!). He met us at the house and was super friendly and hospitable. He went out of his way to make sure we had enough blankets and pillows, knew how to work the TV, sound system, and BBQ, gave us enough keys for our party, and even gave me a little tour and history of the place.
The place itself was wonderful. Clean, tastefully decorated with all the amenities. The kitchen is completely modern (we cooked a few meals) and the bathroom has this awesome precision water heater.
It has two great porches - one in front and one in back - to sit outside and drink a cold one on those hot Austin summer nights.
Its about a 15 minute walk to Stubb's, and a 20-25 minute walk to the Convention Center. While being a short walk from Downtown Austin, its in a nice little tucked away neighborhood. The nights were pretty quiet, despite the craziness going on downtown.
There's a great cluster of food trucks just around the corner where you can get some egg sandwiches for breakfast and BBQ for dinner.
I would definitely recommend Abe's place if you're looking for a place to stay in Austin :)
