I'm a novelist, poet and screenwriter. I'm in graduate school working on my Masters in Creative Writing and pursuing additional languages (French and Arabic) in hopes to explore translation projects (prose and poetry) in the future. I love to learn and am constantly intrigued by our world and universe. I love to read, travel and watch old movies. Some of my favorite things to do in Manhattan include long walks through Central Park (a benefit of having it outside the door), swimming, hanging out at cafes, biking, finding affordable tickets to the theater and the ballet, meditating, yoga and spending quality time with my friends. I also love to cook, garden, knit and dabble in photography. I'm a foodie, although I suffer from several major food allergies.
I lived in West Africa for several years (Gambia and Senegal) and have travelled through Europe, my favorite city is still Paris, although I have much more traveling and exploring to do. I'm hoping to travel to Kenya this year and perhaps spend next summer in either North Africa or the Middle East learning Arabic.
I'm originally from Boston but have lived in New York for more than twelve years now. I love the city and don't mind helping you figure out how to navigate it. There are too many things in life to enjoy and so little time during the day so let me know if you have questions.
When I'm not out taking the city by storm I'm home working (I work more than I play most times as I'm dedicated to my art). I'm currently finishing up the revisions of my second novel and am in the midst of writing a third book along with several other shorter projects. When I'm not on my laptop writing I tend to be "in my head" thinking of my characters, story narrative, etc... in other words I'm pretty quiet. It's how a writer creates. We are internal people because the worlds we are creating can only come from inside of us.
I've done several 6-day silent mediation retreats and I love them, I like to sometimes have mini 1-day silent retreats for myself, it helps to rejuvenate me. I enjoy talking and sharing ideas but I do find it tiring and sometimes would rather kick my feet up and just hang out in the space watching a film or listening to music with friends. Talking is not the only way to communicate with each other and I enjoy comfortable silences.
I love art and have a special place in my heart for other artists. I am a very private person, non-judgemental, friendly and easy-going. I like to keep my apartment low key and open, so people can have the space they need to be themselves.
If you are open to the eccentricities of living with New York artists, then my place may be for you!
